Just a thought I had while I was at the gun store the other day and half-overheard a guy who was looking to trade in a Glock and another guy (customer) who was interested in buying it.

Do private sales in PA require any paperwork? Do you have to go through an FFL? Just handguns, or what?

I'm thinking of selling my Mossberg 702 fairly soon, and if at all possible I'd like to stay legal. Plus, I'm curious.

Longarms can be sold FTF between PA residents, no paperwork necessary. For everyone's protection, you should show each other your PA driver's license to assure each other of the legality of the transaction.

Handguns must be via FFL, OR via the county sheriff's office, and this will involve a NICS check and the infamous "not a gun registry" state police form.

PA guys:

You all need to get the word out that PA's "lax handgun laws" include this handgun registration and background check system.

The local Phila papers and politicos are going all-out with the PR campaign against what they call "PA's embarrasingly lax gun laws" in the hopes that one-gun-a -month and other nonsense gets passed.

Learn something new every day, eh?

Not that it matters to me, functionally, but are all those names and serial numbers in a state database someplace? Why do we have to fill out our current employer, anyway? :scrutiny:
