I'm very interested in an Arcus

1) BHP Clone
2) Bulgarian
3) Seemingly good reputation
4) Opportunity for low cost reliable high cap capable handgun

I'm hearing conflicting reports on mag compatibility, specifically the KRD mag's offered by CDNN and others in a 17-rd version for as low as $19.99.

For my circumstances (with the 17-rd mag option) an Arcus is very attractive. Without it, I'm not sure that it is much more than a Brady-cap limited novelty...especially with an OTD price that approaches a CZ-75B.

Please share your experiences with 17-rd KRD's and your Arcus to include the specific model (e.g. 94, 94C, 98DA, or 98DAC).

Thanks in advance,

Thanks WKW...

...however, I'm reading stiff springs, and some intermittent problems but not a discrete "doesn't work with Arcus" warning.

Could you tell me which model you had which didn't like the KRD's?

Not trying to "blame the operator", but did you allow for the "break-in" period...store them loaded to loosen the spring?

I'm just trying to determine whether KRD/Arcus are truly incompatible, or if there is a level of risk with some KRD's/Arcus making music together.

Thanks,

If the mag FITS the gun, the follower locks back the slide, etc., it should function. If it doesn't, it probably has nothing to do with the HP/ARCUS differences, but with general problems with the mag itself.

I've got 7 KRD mags for my HiPower, and they've always serviceable, but not something I'd risk my life on. I haven't replaced the mags springs with Wolff springs, yet, and that might make a difference.

Thanks Walt...

...is there a reliable/available high cap alternative to the KRD that you would recommend? An online source for same?

Thanks in advance,

I've been diggin'...

...and turned up this thread at a neighbor's...

http://fnhipower.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Forums&file=viewtopic&topic=3473&forum=13

It seems like the trick with KRD's is:

1) Clean them real good
2) Load 'em and leave 'em for a while
3) Insert and fire...
4) Repeat steps 2 & 3 and periodically perhaps, step 1.

I think Walt was on the mark with what he said regarding likelihood that KRD's with issues are likely to be BHP/Arcus indifferent...

I'm leaning toward taking the plunge, and mitigating some risk by picking up some Mec-Gar Brady-Caps at the same time so I can shoot while the KRD's are "aging".

Thanks,

Hello,

I have the Arcus 94 and 3 KRD 15 round mags. I have used the mags in a Hi-power , a Feg Mark II model and my new Arcus. Fit and function work 100% . Great mags for the money. The mag finish is a little crude . I loaded them for a week with empty cases which eased the spring pressure and allowed the springs to "set" which allowed hand loading of the mags after that.

Thanks!

I think my concerns have been addressed...now when is that bonus check getting here...:D

When I loaded the magazine into my Arcus 94 full size, I had to wiggle it back and forth to get it to go into the magazine well. And taking it out was a joke, I had to pull as hard as I could, after that one attempt, most of the nickel plating was taken off the front and back of the magazine.

Using it at the range, I had stovepipes occur with it and failures to feed.

If you call CDNN, ask about it, they told me straight up, it's the only problem they have had, about 1 in 3 KRD magazines don't work at all with the Arcus. I guess you could order 3 and see what happens.

WhoKnowsWho

Thanks for the additional details.

I've heard similar testimonials from some others, and the BHP Mag' site indicates that some % of KRD mag's have caused owners some risk.

The consistency I've found is:
1) Most folks have had decent luck with KRD's.
2) KRD's with issues do not seem to be specific to Arcus models

Given that the 17-rd mag's are only $19.99 (at least on sale right now...CTD has them for about $25), it would seem your suggestion to get a small sample would make some sense.

When I do, I would expect to verify fit empty, load them up as recommended, see if they fit properly loaded, then let them sit for some period of time before using them at the range (probably 3-4 weeks).

I'll order some Mec-Gar Bradycaps to keep me out of trouble until the KRD's "season", and I'll let everyone know how I make out.

Thanks to all who have provided valueable feedback.

I'm committed now...

...contacted the dealer to understand protocol.

Ordered the KRD's today so they'll be here in time to season...

By the time the bonus check arrives and I can complete the purchase, I should have seasoned mag's and a shiny new Arcus 98DAC under the tree for Christmas...AND a week off where I'll have some range time to get acquainted :D

Hi there. I had about 20 of the KRD 17 rounders. All of them worked flawlessly in two different Brownings. Never had to "break them in" either as they all loaded full easily enough with my magloader tool.
