Palmetto State Buffer Tube Metal

I know the premiums use 7075 and remember a grey finish on the inside of the tube as opposed to black.

Looking at the link I realize this doesn't help much. They used to offer 2 versions through psa with the 7075 being a bit more expensive.

You may have to ask psa directly.

A lot of cheaper buffer tubes are made of 6061 aluminum and they are just fine. There is nothing wrong with 6061 (even though 7075 is stronger). I used to use 6061 for making lost wax/investment cast molds and they hold up to repeated long use.

I find it funny that 6061 is preferred for cost; 70 series is so much easier to machine it's not even funny, and for a buffer tube would cost less than a dollar extra. The increased quality & reduced scrap rate & tool wear would seem to far outpace that fixed cost. Are these all being cast, or something?

I had some issues with those 6061 tubes. Now when I order a kit, I make sure to order an extra 7075 tube (if one isn't specified), to avoid problems later. I then sell the 6061's at the next gun show.
