I am considering buying a Para-Ord pistol. I have had 1911A1's from Colt, Kimber, Springfield and Norinco but never from Para-Ord. I was all set to buy the P-14 SA until I tried the LDA model. I was impressed by the trigger. Question: should I stick with what I know or is the LDA similar enough to allow a reasonable transition? Also what is the benefit of an LDA over the SA? Any opinions and especially any experience with Para-Ord would be appreciated. TIA

i don't think the transition would be too bad. a friend of mine that shoots a SA 1911 tried my 14.45 LDA Ltd and after 2 mags he was good to go. he actually like the trigger better than his SA.

Its personal preference the Lda I tried didnt have a second strike feature on the D/A so I really didnt care for it and went the route of a single action Para.:)

Why worry about the lack of a second strike capability of the

LDA? The SA 1911's don't have that either.

I've tried both. It is a very smooth and consistent DA only system. While I felt I could use the LDA without a handicap my times in USPSA and steel matches didn't back it up. I end up replacing the LDA 16-40 with a LTD 16-40.

I'd say if you're OK with cocked & locked, stay with the SA pistols. The LDA really seems like the answer to people not liking to see C&L carry and some competition classes.

3 gun put it perfectly.

I bought the LDA Para and shot 2500 rounds with it. It is the ONLY Double action pistol I ever liked. But I still didn't like it well enough to keep me from trading it in on a Single Action Limited.

DA is just not for me. I shoot singles faster and more acurately than any DA.

Para

I own a Para P-14ltd and have had some minor problems with it but nothing major. As with any 1911 model pistol a bit of fine tuning can be done, as it is part of the fun of owning one.

From what i've read here and other gun sites on the net, Para's quality control is a bit suspect. I've never had a problem with mine - but others have.

Stuff i changed in mine, Mag springs [ went to + 10% springs] Adjustable sites that came with the gun were junk, changed to Novack nite sites, grips were ok, but i changed to a rubber style Houge grip, i changed the recoil spring also [24lb] but that'a a function of the ammo i use and not the gun itself.

Accuracy and feel are excellent with the gun i have. I don't credit this to Para, just the inherient design of 1911 style weapons. I would not have a problem with recommending a Para to someone looking to buy.

12-34hom.

Many, many thanks for your input. Nothing like getting sound advice from knowledgeable people. I'll probably stick with the SA, getting too old to learn new tricks. Just can't find one locally, all they have is the LDA models. Thanks again.

Tell us why Sean.

I own four Para-Ordnance LDA's ... 14.45LDA, C12.45LDA, C7.45LDA & C6.45LDA and the C6 / C7 is beginning to replace my 3913TSW as my primary carry gun and the 14.45LDA is starting to replace my 4006TSW as my home gun.

Sean, is there a reason you are recommending that Para-Ordnance be avoided?

A few years ago I purchased both a P14.45 LTD and a P16.40 LTD and haven't had a single problem with either.

Then I ordered from the Para Pro-shop a few optional Para base pads that increase the magazine capacity further. They increase the P14 by 1 extra round and the P16 by 2.

Now the P14 holds a total of 16 rounds of 230 gr. Golden Sabers and my P16 holds a total of 19 rounds of 155 gr. Remington JHP's.

I've never had a FTF or any other kind of glitch with either gun since first purchased, but maybe I'm just lucky. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Para to anyone but I'm sure people who own Kimbers and Springfields say the same thing.

Safe shooting.
