I saw a post in a non-firearms forum that said that over $30,000 worth of UPS uniforms have been sold on Ebay...

And I know a lot of folks here may have regular pickups by the guys in brown...

So... If you don't see 'em driving the big brown truck, it might not be a UPS guy...

(and guys, this _is_ gun related... Imagine a guy in a UPS uniform, driving around the Land o' Strip Malls, seeing a gun store with the ubiquitious "UPS Pickup" sign in the window, pulling up, walking in, and walking out with whatever...)
 
So it _is_ slightly legit...

Some have been sold, and hey, would it be THAT hard to fake one up? Not thinking about terrorists, per se, but hey, just think of the amount of stuff a guy with a van and a clipboard (Yes, ma'am, we normally use the electronic ones, but the system is down today, so we're back to the old way for today...) could score...

And it's not just the Big Brown Truck guys - What about folks who buy police uniforms, "security" uniforms, military stuff, etc...

My wife is a security manager at the aforementioned brown company and she has a full time person trying to either buy back or bust the uniform sellers.

Ebay is very uncooperative when it comes to helping track down and prosecute thieves who sell stolen packages, uniforms etc...

The primary concern at this point is that there will be a terrorist act using a stolen vehicle and uniform.
 
I think that the terrorist angle is overrrated... Frankly, if I were Abdul the Awful, in search of a hereafter of neverending virgins, I'd find a truck that had a driver of approximately my build, and try not to get the uniform too messy while appropriating it, prior to stuffing the truck full of nasties...

In actuality, I think that the greater threat, both to the brown company, and the public at large, is monetarily by people who will seek to pass themselves off as drivers, in order to rip off shippers...

those "brown" uniforms and fedex...alot are being sold by
ex drivers. and I would rather promote free market
and CCW then making selling uniforms more regulated.
My GF and I film comedy skits as a hobby and today
we are filming a "cop" skit,there are uses other then
law breaking that a person may want a uniform for.
 
$30,000 dollars in uniforms TOTAL have been sold on Ebay.

It is not a hoax . UPS buys them back if they cannot convince the seller to give them back to the company.


Being a UPS employee is the only way to posess a uniform and any others are stolen property.

Drivers and other personnel are supposed to turn in any uniforms when they quit or are fired.

I know this for a fact.


Try reading the thread before making uninformed statements.
 
Years ago, I bought some of those cool brown socks w/ the 2 yellow stripes...very cool! :cool: But a full uni? :scrutiny:
 
I don't know about the uniforms, but last week I heard a truck in the driveway, and its a Ryder rental. I figgured they weren't there to rip me off (since it was obvious the house was occupied).

Turns out it was FedEx delivering a CMP package - his truck had broken down somewhere.
 
Just another reason here to always ask for ID, etc., if you're not 100% sure about something...

Last week, we had a semi-plainclothes detective in my apartment building, looking for possible witnesses to something that had happened in the neighborhood the weekend before. Female, wearing a raid jacket. She didn't ask to enter my apartment, and I didn't ask for ID, but if she'd done anything beyond asking if I'd seen someone marginally fitting a pretty vague description (the victim hadn't produced a good identikit...), I woulda been looking at an ID, and on the phone...

Overall, I wasn't too worried, because she responded in a good fashion when asked if she knew someone who did FOP work ("Do you know John Doe?" (without telling her who he was...) "Yeah, he represented me a while back - is he a friend of yours?")

ANYONE can buy a raid jacket.
 
There is some truth to this story.

However the uniforms were sold a few at a time here and there.

As I stated before my wife is a security manager at UPS and her employees are directed to convince people to turn in the stolen uniforms or if that fails buy them back.


When I spoke with my wife about it last night she dismissed the 30k in uniforms to one person story.

The threat of having non UPS employees try to trick people into
giving over their packages is non-existant and has never happened according to her.

However security over uniforms is tight and security over the brown vehicles is even tighter because package cars are allowed into many secured areas as standard procedure.


Since I misunderstood what the whole hoax was about I apologize for any mis-statements I made.
