Boy Had Several Firearms In Room, Including Machine Gun

NEW CASTLE, Del. -- Parents in New Castle are under arrest for allegedly supplying guns to their son, who later killed himself with one of those guns.

Authorities said they would probably never know why the boy killed himself, or whether it was intentional or accidental.

New Castle County police said they were called to the home of William Lindewirth and his wife, Shirley, on Sept. 23 after what the couple said was an accidental shooting.

Authorities said they found that the 15-year-old boy had shot himself in the head.

"There's no indication at all that this was a suicide. He wasn't depressed, left no note. There are no indications that it is intentional. We will probably never know. He was the only one in the room when it happened," said Cpl. Trinidad Navarro, of the New Castle County police.

Police said they searched the home and found multiple loaded weapons in the boy's room, including a machine gun. According to authorities, the evidence shows that the boy's father is the one who gave the weapons to him.

"This isn't a case where the son stumbled upon the weapons, or found the weapons. The father clearly provided the weapons, gave the weapons to his son," Navarro said.

William and Shirley Lindworth turned themselves in to police Friday. They are out on bail and face a number of charges, including endangering the welfare of a child and giving a firearm to a person prohibited from possessing a gun.

"The bottom line is that the father provided the weapon for his son (and) did not provide direct or indirect supervision when the terrible incident occurred," Navarro said.

This is one odd sounding case. Anyone from that area that can provide more information?

Thanks

So how many teens kill themselves with razerblades their parents gave them, or CO from the tailpipe of the car their parents gave them? Why don't we arrest them and splash the story across the national media?

Just more Anti 2nd-Amendment bigotry disguised as journalism.

How sad. There's not nearly enough information here to draw ANY conclusions, except that this is sad. There are many possibilities - the parents are negligent for giving guns to kid who wasn't mature/stable/safety-conscious enough to have them, or this was a kid in a gun-friendly household who had the joy and priviledge of being able to shoot and died because of a tragic accident... either way, it's sad.
