My dad has 2 pecan trees. Will the pecan shells work as media?

I've only used rice. It gets stuck in case and flame area.

Where do you get the walnut and corn cob media cheap?

not sure if pecan shell will work or not. u can get walnut media from earl mays (im sure other pet stores would be able to help u out) as turtle and lizard bedding. some of it comes in really big chunks that i dont think would be as suitable for media.

i have never used rice either, but might have to give that a try as it can be had by the 50# pretty cheap. i have always wanted to put together a super blend of media, but everything available works well enough for me to not even bother.

"...Will the pecan shells work..." Maybe. They'd have to be cleaned of dust first and dried.
"...Where do you get..." Any pet supply shop. If you pay $20 for a great big bag of either crushed corn cobs or walnut shells, you're being had.

Look at Petco, Petsmart, places like that. Ground walnut is sold as bird scratch, so look in the bird section of the stores. Or, if there's a store that specializes in birds near you, you might want to check there.

I got 50lbs of #24 grit walnut from Harbor Freight a couple years back when it was on sale for $20. Stuff lasts forever and polishes like corncob. It's great!
