Pedersoli Howdah

Have read a couple old posts regarding the Howdah pistol but have found nothing regarding the precussion cap size to use. Is it 10 or 11 or? What brand would be best? I will be using Pyrodex R until I use up the 2 cans. (Originally purchased for Trapdoor, Sharps, RB, High Wall, .45-70 / 90 shooting.)
The Pedersoli Howdah was purchased at the Kansas City Ks. Cabela's for #382.49 minus $70.00 promotion card = $312.49 + tax $27.16. Total cost $339.65. It was new in the box purchased from the Bargin Cave. Thought that was a pretty good price. It is a beautiful gun, I have 6 other Pedersoli cartridge .45-70 rifles.

Any advise on precussion size & brand would be appreciated.

PS: I got away from BP shooting in 1969 or 70. Got out of recreational shooting and did some REAL shooting in Viet Nam.

My sister uses Remington #11 percussion caps, Triple Seven 3fff, and #2 shot. It's a home and grandchild protector, believe me....Her's came from Cabela's....

My sister just told me on e-mail that she killed a young deer in her garden this morning with her Howdah. She said she had been trying to get her grandson (he's 14) to get it for her but he don't like to get out of bed early. She got it herself. She said she just carried a thermos of hot coffee and hid down there in some bushes. The shot was at about 30 feet she told me. My nephew (her son) just got one there a couple of days ago with a Walker he got a little while ago. She didn't mention it but I know she was using #2 shot. I don't know what the hell she's got in a garden this time of year. Got to be some kind of greens....

Don't know, but that could be a first deer kill for the Howdah, by anyone.
I have to wait a while for the weather to clear & warm a bit before shooting mine.
ALSO, I was given some #11 caps and they seem to fit just fine. The cast bullets for the .500 S&W seem to fit well enough with shot cups. They should work well as slugs.

I use a .610 or 62 cal rb with a .010 patch in my Howdah. With no rear sight it's hard to tell it's true accuracy.

Where did you get, or what mold did you cast, the projectiles? I have been searching all over and get conflicting info. Seems the Lee mold and pot would be the best. Also, in measuring the bore of the 20ga, a .500 cast bullet for the S&W .500 Mag just may work as well using a shot cup.

Any .62 cal round ball should do. The ones I buy are made by Warren out of Ozone, ARK. They are .610 dia and weigh 341gr. I get them here. 20 balls are like $5, that's a years worth for me.
