If you value your Second Amendment rights, you must be aware that the Democrats, led by Barack Obama are aiming to take them from you. This is from their 2008 Democratic Platform Report (DNC 08-13-08):

"We recognize that the right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and we will preserve Americans’ Second Amendment right to own and use firearms. We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation, but we know that what works in Chicago may not work in Cheyenne. We can work together to enact and enforce commonsense laws and improvements – like closing the gun show loophole, improving our background check system, and reinstating the assault weapons ban, so that guns do not fall into the hands of terrorists or criminals. Acting responsibly and with respect for differing views on this issue, we can both protect the constitutional right to bear arms and keep our communities and our children safe".

Our mission statement is to make known our support for the 2nd Amendment and the right for responsible, law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms by informing our legislators of our position on the issue using a tangible symbol that cannot be misinterpreted.

The idea is to target lawmakers who are up for reelection in 2010 and let them know that we will be on the alert for any attempts to pass another Weapons Ban of any shape or form, and that their vote on such a piece of legislation will be a signal to us of how they intend to either protect, or deny us our rights.

With this object in mind, we have initiated a campaign to send our lawmakers a No. 2 Pencil and/or a teabag.

The No. 2 Pencil has several significances/benefits.

First of all, it's a No. 2 Pencil, which calls to mind the 2nd Amendment rights.

Second, it's to remind our representatives that they need to be focusing on meaningful legislation, like improving the horrendous school system instead of enacting another Assault Weapons Ban.

Third, it's cheap, and cheap to send. It can be mailed with a simple envelope and stamp.

Fourth, it serves to remind legislators that we can "erase" their careers if they do not remember who they work for (us).

A teabag also has several meanings.

It calls to mind immediately the Boston Tea Party, when aggrieved citizens took action.

Like a pencil, it is also cheap, and easy to send.

There's nothing "radical" about pencils and teabags, they can be afforded by everyone, and it's easy to get the message out.

The idea is to target lawmakers who are up for reelection in 2010 and let them know that we will be watching them. A handwritten note, picture of ourselves, or signature in the letter, and they can't ignore it. Once they start getting those pencils and teabags, they'll know exactly what we intend.

For the time being, we recommend that you send pencils and teabags in separate envelopes because the teabags may not make it through security screenings. We are working on ordering personalized teabags and pencils that are sealed that are guaranteed to reach their destinations. Until then, please mail the pencils separately so that we are assured that they arrive.

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT

What you can do:

(1) Mail a pencil and teabag to your representatives, most importantly those who will be up for reelection in 2010. State Senators and Representatives are our principal targets.

(2) Spread the word about this group, and about this effort. Gather 5 friends and have them each mail a pencil and tea bag. This has the potential to grow exponentially if we all do a small part.

(3) Take pencils to firearm meets, post about this on firearm forums, tell friends and family. Ask your local gunshop(s) if you can display a flier or stand outside the store passing out information.

(4) Remember to be a good representative of this cause. No threatening emails or notes. Keep letters to lawmakers polite, succinct, and well-written. If you don't have the time to write a letter, merely print off our Mission Statement, and enclose it with your pencil and teabag.

(5) Volunteer. We need help in a number of ways. If you've got webdesign talent, you can help us with the site we'll be designing. Can you do graphics? We'll need a logo. And of course, send us your ideas.

Thank you for your support! Please post and let us know what actions you have taken, and if you have mailed your pencil and teabag!

Sending a small symbolic item is a great attention getter.

Has anyone verified that you can actually send a #2 pencil in an envelope with a stamp? The envelope probably won't be able to be read by the USPS machinery since it won't pass through it with the pencil in it so you won't be able to send it like you'd send a letter. It's easy enough to send it as a first class parcel, it will just cost a little more than a stamp.

Heck, you can send the pencil itself, as long as you affix a tag to it that holds the required amount of postage and address.

You'd be suprised at the stuff that can be mailed without any kind of external packaging, as long as it has proper postage and address.

I've sent pencils to friends before....I don't see why one wouldn't get to DC the same way (USPS)

So, does this mean you guys have sent/will send pencils

Make sure you leave the tag on the Tea Bag too. Dont want CNN reporting that a bunch of 2nd Amedment nut jobs are sending "unidentified substances" to Washington.

Yes... I would be interested in doing it. Symbolism can be very strong.
