HB 1791 is essentially another of those Smart Gun proposals, though this one features additional objectionable components. For instance, there is the legally questionable delegation of legislative responsibility to a group of political appointees, the Gun Commission mentioned in the text. Then there is the exemption for police and the military, from the requirements of this wonderful proposal. The sponsors of this proposal, HB 1791 that is, appear below.

THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF PENNSYLVANIA

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HOUSE BILL
No. 1791 Session of 2003

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

INTRODUCED BY ROONEY, WASHINGTON, THOMAS, JOSEPHS, CURRY,
WATERS, BEBKO-JONES, JAMES, KIRKLAND, FRANKEL, CORRIGAN,
MELIO AND WEBER, JULY 1, 2003

It strikes me that their sponsorship of such legislation should be a career killing blunder, something sufficient to return them to "private life", where they might find honest employment, while they enjoy the constitutional protections of citizens, protections that they would denude others of, from the elevated position that they currently occupy, that of elected representatives.

Send them back to the glories of "private life". The opportunity to so do will again present itself in November 2004. While that date might seem rather far into the future, remember that time flies when one is having fun, and that election day is preceeded by the primaries.
