I'm not really looking for myself, but I'm trying to figure out details regarding pepper spray for a female who concerns me from time to time... so I'm looking for any advice from people with experience because I certainly have none in this field.

  1. Are there any brands that are to be avoided? Is there actually a significant benefit to the Kimber LifeAct?
  2. What training is necessary to become effective with pepper spray against a larger attacker? Or, is its use basic enough that somebody just really needs to know how to discharge it to use it effectively?
  3. Any recommendations for how she should carry it? She usually carries a rather large purse, but I don't want her to have to search around for it in there should she need it.
  4. What else am I missing?

There have been plenty of discussions here and in Strategy & Tactics on pepper spray's use, it's merits and shortcomings, and the best products. A search for Fox Labs and Lifeact in either subforum will give you tons of info.

if its in her purse how could she use it if she needed it?

i recommend something you can put on a key chain so its always with you . now there are two actually three great products as far as key chain models go .

Sabre Red 1.33% Key chain Model 47059.png

Sabre Red pepper spray at whopping 1.33% capsaicinoid content and 2,000,000 shu and almost 200,000 out of nozzle heat . which is brutal its nasty stuff . i got it for my wife and i carry it in my pocket when i have clothing restrictions. its small and comes in many different colors

next

Sabre 3 in 1 Key chain Model 25772.png

Sabre 3 in 1 it combines .33% capsaicinoid content mixed with 1% CS gas (tear gas) Great combo and when cs is put in a spray i noticed as far as blow back or contamination goes its far less severe . this comes in the same container . also has 2,000,000 shu rating but a lower out of nozzle heat . but combined with the CS it is a force to be reckoned with . lower capsaicinoid content and the additive will contribute to a longer time (1-2 seconds) for it to kick up the heat but it is nasty stuff.

the last

Fox Labs Key Chain

Fox Labs , same container as well . 2% oc at an amazing 5,300,000 SHU's . You dont want to be in a enclosed area when this stuff goes off . How ever it is in a stream pattern so there is less risk of cross contamination . I recommend this only for people who know what it feels like to be sprayed is at least willing to get hit by it and lets face it , she wont . If she had to use it in her car or in her house the fumes would probably make her as useless as the person she sprayed .

i would get one of the sabre products also the huge advantages of sabre is if you had the same size containers of both fox and sabre you get 10 shots from fox and 30-35 from sabre . Multiple attackers and bad aiming should be taken into account .

i dont work for sabre and i carry fox in a 4 oz size .

I have always been fond of Def-tech. But that is probably because thats what we use at work (state prison). The problem with less then lethal deterants is that they don't always work on everyone. If you blasted me with OC I would keep coming, but then again I'm a big dumb animal and have a high pain tolerance. The best stuff I have seen is oil based OC. Its use at the prison was discontinued because its nearly impossible to get the stuff off. Proper training would include shooting the OC at someone preferably, or at least a paper target.
