Lets get a bunch of signatures on this. Lets dismantle the Clinton/Gore Gun Control Legacy.
Petition to allow sunset of assault weapons ban
To: President Bush, U.S. Congress, U.S. Senate
Dear Mr. President;
We the Law Abiding American Firearms owners of this great Nation have
for too long put up with Laws that do nothing to fight or prevent
crime, We are tired of being blamed and limited and infringed at
every turn, one example is the Assault weapons ban due to sunset
in 2004, this Law did nothing to prevent crime, but did
hurt Legal Businesses and limit what otherwise law abiding People
can purchase.
We the Law abiding Firearms Owners are saying enough to any
Laws that go contrary to Our Second Ammendment rights, We did not
Vote for Al Gore due to His stance on the Second Ammendment,
Have You forgotten Your oath of office ? to uphold the Constitution
of the United States ? The Second Ammendment is part of that
Constitution, and the Second Ammendment is not about Hunting,
its about the Right to keep and bear arms, the Provisions of
the so called Assault Weapons ban violates Our Second Ammendment
rights because we are not free to purchase these suitable Weapons
for Our defence, based on cosmetics or features that do not make
any of those weapons more suitable for crime.
Dear Mr. President, please let this confounding Law pass into
past History, The Ban on so called Assault Weapons and high capacity
magazines,
and by doing so Uphold and defend the Constitution
and the Individual right to keep and bear Arms.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned

No offense, but what are the odds the President even knows this exists? I think the whole idea of petitiononline.com is sort of pointless. It might take a bit longer, but IMO directly writing/calling the person you're trying to influence would probably have a greater effect than signing a 3rd party petition. Not that the petition would hurt, just don't let that be all you do.

Thanks:
I just got this posted around the net a little while ago, it was created by a friend of mine today. I've got it on a dozen boards at this point with a combined membership of around 30,000 shooters and sportsmen. There is also a letter to President Bush available on the Gunowners Of America website on this matter along with email and snail mail info for sending letters to the White House Congress and the Senate.

Petition

It might be a good idea to let the NRA know that this issue is important - and that we expect them to use whatever resources they have to influence our elected representatives in Congress. Writing your representative in Congress would be a good thing to do too. If we don't raise hell about this, we'll have the ban back.

Thanks Folks: , I signed on at #21 before posting this around the net. The CAS folks and the folks from the Ted Nugent Forum have really given this a boost we're at 172 signatures last I checked. President Bush has made the statement that he favors supporting the assault weapons ban. We can still change his mind. The Petition is only the begining. Over on the Gunowners Of America site there is a letter to the Whitehouse available in regards to this matter, along with email and snail mail addresses for the Whitehouse, Your Senators and Congressmen. All gunowners need to hammer them non stop on these matters. The Republicans need to be reminded every day that it was the gunowners support that put them in the Whitehouse and in the majority. That it was support for gun control that defeated the Democrats, that our support gave the Republicans three critical states without which the Florida election results wouldn't have mattered. The NRA is allready pushing to allow the Ban to sunset. Gun Control was political suicide for the Democrats in 94. We as gunowners need to drive the message home loud and clear that support for gun control will become political suicide for any of our elected officials.

While it certainly is good that we're emailing Bush, we should keep in mind that it will be Congress that is going to determine whether or not it even gets to Bush, so focus on them first.

We should also focus on getting new shooters into the fold, especially those in the traditional Democratic party demographic (women, blacks, Jews, homosexuals, etc), and getting them excited about guns, and thus motivated to take effective action.

Numbers is what it all comes down to.

Grow your numbers!

Well the number of signatures has doubled since midnight last night. We're now at over 600 signatures and gaining momentum. If you folks know of other boards where this will get additional exposure and gain signatures feel free to post it there. We intend to submit this to the Whitehouse in both hard copy and electronic form. We want to convey the message that support for gun control is overwhelmingly opposed and is political suicide.
