I hunted last year for the first time (whitetail) with a borrowed Win 94 Lever gun. Didn't have any luck, but sure enjoyed it.

I knew I needed a rifle of my own for this season, and I have been looking around a bit. Went down to a sale at the Kittery Trading Post (for those who may know it) with the intention of getting a new Marlin XL7 in 30-06. They had them advertised for $269.95 And a Bushnell Trophy 3x9 for $99.95. So i figured about $450 out the door after buying bases and rings. Well, I am sure they are fine guns, but after manhandling one, I just didn't like it. Felt like a toy, and looked like a toy. I guess I am partial to Walnut.

Ended up browsing the used guns, and this one followed me home.

Winchester Model 70 XTR Featherweight in 30-06
$395 out the door with a Bushnell Banner 1.75-4.5x on Weaver bases and rings. Some of the blueing leaves a bit to be desired, but the wood is in good shape and the bore is clean. I suspect that whoever had it before, didn't use it much, and that they didn't keep it oiled while it sat around. Couple of rust spots, which cleaned up nicely.

can't wait to take her out this week. Hopefully tomorrow morning.

Done sharing, thanks for listening.

Nice. Cannot see clearly, but it looks like a push feed? Always wanted a featherweight in 7x57.

I have that exact scope on a 95 Mauser sporter. Great thick eastern woods gun.

Yes, the XTR is a push feed. I have one also, its a nice rifle.

Congrats! I love the feal of working the action on a bolt gun. Hard to say which is better, chambering a fresh round and watching the bolt face pick up the cartridge or flinging an empty out after you touch one off!
