Bet you didnt even know i was building one!!

ok folks, as for the "in progress" pictures....im an idiot and left my digital camera at home...

but anyhow, here are a few quick snaps of the finished product...

I did all of the refinishing myself, and my buddy more or less took over the building aspect of it....

UPPER, LOWER, and STOCK refinished in GunKote grey, (the same color and product that CRK uses for their fixed blade knives.)
All other parts refinished in GunKote Black
Front section of SS barrel base coat of black, with grey stenciling to simulate carbon fiber....(this was my idea, and i am really proud of the way it came out.) I thought about Skunkabilly the whole time, and it looks mucho bad ass in person. All gunkote applied with an airbrush, and then baked @325 for one hour.

Parts
Upper and Lower by Mega Machine Shop (mega "gator grip" lower)
Ace brand entry tubular stock
Ergo pistol grip
Yankee hill machine 4 rail free float tube foregrip (with magpul rail covers)
16 inch Shaw stainless steel heavy barrel, 1:9 twist, 11 degree target crown with picatinny gas block
DPMS lower parts kit.
RRA enhanced bolt/carrier assembly
RRA national match 2 stage trigger (awesome)
mag shown in picture is a blued steel british military 30 rounder with a rubber magpul loop baseplate (awesome)

i am unable to mount my scope at the moment because my mount hasnt come in...

i am going to try to take more/better pics after i get it buttoned up with a scope and a sling....and i hope to shoot it next weekend.

and by the by, i dont know if anyone is
familiar with Mega upper and lowers,
but they are the bees knees, i kid you not....
this was the finest looking forged reciever i
have ever seen....and i almost felt bad covering
up the beautiful black standard finish with the airbrush.

this picture is compliments of skich at ar15.com

its funny that is always the first question...

as far as my wife knows...about a hundred.:D
i havent added all my reciepts up yet...but it was expensive..maybe 700 or more.

however, buy a rifle pre built in this configuration and you will pay much more.

Don't forget to mention that they are amoung the least expensive forged lowers available right now too. And the fellow that sells them is a really nice guy to deal with.

fyi for the group http://www.carricozarmory.com/

edited to add: At one time he had a nice discount for ar15.com members if your interested you might want to ask if its still going on.

Skunk....did you not notice my "faux" carbon fiber barrel??????

You are right, there is no REAL carbon fiber on it....but i figured you would appreciate it anyhow.

hey...

add to the cost of your gun 12 dollars...

cuz that's how much this keyboard cost. Then add a buck for the vanilla coke that's all over it.

I'll expect a check in the mail :D

i think the barrel is absoultly amasing. most likely the best barrel i have ever seen. it wins my award for the most unique at the range. im still no 100% on how you put the crisscrosses to simulate the carbon fiber, very interested. you must have spent a fortune on it and the effort and money shows.

in all reality, if you can handle an airbrush, the CF finish was a no-brainer.

i did a coat on the barrel of flat black....ok...done with that...

then i wrapped the barrel in that mesh rubber shelf liner stuff....im sure you have some laying around...if not, Walmart has it:

http://www.organize-everything.com/gripliner.html

i cut it JUST to fit around the barrel, and the sewed it up along the bottom of the barrel, so it was like a mesh sleeve....after that, a spray over the top of it with the grey guncoat.....cut the stitching on the bottom, remove the rubber liner stuff....and into the oven to bake @325 for an hour...

no biggie...but the results were very pleasing to me.

:D

Cool, I have seen a similar method for painting 1/10 scale RC cars to look like they have carbon fiber body parts.

Nice job. And those Mega Lowers are nice, I was going to get one with the discount from AR15.com but they were always backordered for a while there!
