What could be better than Mr. Walthar P99 in France sharing his opinion of our leader. I'll be sure to miss "The Matador". Where are the Baldwins in our time of need?

Actor Brosnan says Bush 'has a lot to answer for'
Sep 06 3:50 AM US/Eastern

DEAUVILLE, France (Hollywood Reporter) - Pierce Brosnan was the only big star on hand as the Deauville Festival of American Cinema got off to a quiet start over the weekend, and he took advantage of the spotlight to blast the Bush administration's handling of the carnage caused by Hurricane Katrina.

"This man called President Bush has a lot to answer for," the former James Bond actor told reporters Saturday. "I don't know if this man is really taking care of America. This government has been shameful."

Brosnan was in the northern coastal resort promoting the black comedy "The Matador," which opened the festival Friday. The event was overshadowed by the weightier Venice International Film Festival, which runs almost parallel to it.

Paul Haggis' "Crash" kicked off the 10-film competition section reserved for independent filmmakers. The film, which explores race relations, urban alienation and crime in America, stars Matt Dillon, Sandra Bullock, Don Cheadle, Brendan Fraser and Thandie Newton.

Canadian-born director Haggis, who was in Deauville with Dillon, told journalists that the film was about fear, which often generated from ignorance. Dillon, who admitted to his own prejudice about L.A. police officers, quickly learned that they were "human" too, as he did research for his role.

Some of the film's themes suddenly took on very real meaning in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the actor said, adding that "it's upsetting to be here and see what's going on over there."

Other films that were well-received over the weekend include Harold Ramis' film noir, "The Ice Harvest," with Ramis and actress Connie Nielsen on hand for the film's world premiere Saturday; Jim Jarmusch's "Broken Flowers"; and Shane Black's "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang," starring Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer, both of whom traveled to Deauville.

Director Roman Polanski made a surprise appearance to honor director-screenwriter Robert Towne, his partner in crime on "Chinatown."

Maverick director James Toback, whom the festival honored Monday, could not make it to Deauville because his 92-year-old mother took ill last week.

Nice to see him onstage with the great Roman Polanski

A known raper of children and special Hollywood Honoree.
Why didn't Brosnan drop everything(at least Sean Penn tried to help)and fly back to the US and lend aid? I guess hobknobbing with your meal ticket is far more important that tendering aid and comfort.

Figures a Limey (IIRC he's actually Irish by birth, but that's close enough.) would go mouth off for the Froggies - I bet they just ate it up.

As for sharing the limelight with Roman Polanski . . . I understand Roman's got a new film project going now . . . the star will be Michael Jackson . . . the working title is "Close Encounters with the Third Grade."

I pay Brosnan (buying movie tickets, DVDs, etc.) to entertain me, not for his political beliefs. Can't say I fully disagree with him, though.

El Tejon, you nailed it.

I have been watching the coverage off and on, and it seems like everyone "wants their mommy". Whatever happened to personal responsibility.

HankB LMAO

I guess he better denounce Clinton too, because Clinton is supportive of Bush on this and agrees on the issues that have occured.

Grown adults need to be their own mommy. As most here know, that means stockpiling supplies and firearms if the SHTF.

I have been admittedly negligent doing this in the past. But I have begun collecting water and food, candles etc., and I am planning to buy an 'evil black assault weapon' in the near future. My wife thinks I'm paranoid, but I know this: We live 75 miles west of DC. If a biological attack were to occur there, tens of thousands would head south and west, right into my backyard, and we would probably have all kinds of shortages here.

How does drama school (if they went to it) qualify actors to offer political analyses? Why do the media even acknowledge what these fools have to say about anything but mimickry?

Just another Monday morning quarterback; reading from the Leftist playbook....

I am sure gonna miss watching movies with Mr. Brosnan in them. NOT.

I've never seen a movie with Brosnan in it. Guess I never will.

Years ago we had stars with class who supported their country in times of crisis.* Now we have second-rate actors, whose fame often derives merely from exposing their private parts, giving us a view of what should be their most private part: their brains.

*(Supporting one's country does not necessarily mean supporting the actions of an administration. However, there's a right time to criticize, and that time is not when the country needs to come together).

what part of brosnan's acting career automaitcally qualifies him as an expert in damage control and recovery operations? It seems to me most of the celebrities show their ignorance with comments like this from the cheap seats. I am a Bush man....I won't bs you that, but doing the best you know with the info at hand is awful hard compared to hindsight "I'd a done it so much better" from a rank ameteur in such matters.

Brosnan

I thought he would be good as 007,but after watching the first one he made with that stiff acting he does I thought he sucked.

When he first became famous as Reminton Steele it was said he never made a comment without his wife's permission. Maybe you guys should be directing your comments to her?

IIRC she died of cancer some time ago (like before he was, or around the time be started, playing 007).
