I have a .44 cal revolver and broke the hand and spring part no 7. After replacing it, I cannot get the hammer to cock when pistol is assembled. When cylinder and barrel are removed I can cock the hammer at half and full no problem. Timing is good on bottom bolt.

Anyone have any ideas?

Can you better describe what exactly happens? SA hands are fitted at the factory and replacements often must be fitted to a particular gun. The hand may be too long and not allowing the hammer to come back far enough to come to full cock. If so, you will need to trim the hand so it is the correct length for the cylinder to carry up but not so long as to prevent full cocking. It is tricky, so go slow. Getting a good book on tuning the SA revolvers might be a good idea.

Thank you Jim K. As you advised, the new hand was too long to allow the hammer to go to full cock.

I worked at shortening the hand a little at a time and after about seven or eight tries I finally got the right length. Works perfectly now and I am real good at disassembly and reassembly of this pistol.
