Pigeon Shooting in England

More straightforward than you would think, though obviously much tougher than in the U.S :)

Having said that, some youthful indiscrestions of mine have left me with a (25 year old) criminal record that I suspect may mean I couldnt own a gun at all in your country, so maybe I should count my blessings.

Anyway, that's the great Mr Digweed shooting in that video so enjoy :D

Interesting. I notice his sponsors are in Dubai, not any shooting sports companies in the UK.

And several of our Olympic shooters are sponsored by companies in Italy, not the US - when you earn your living, you take whatever sponsors you can get

I know it's a bit long, but I wondered if you guys used similar methods to decoy ?

I beleive from previous conversations that you don't have wood pigeons as such in your country, but do you decoy other quarry? Other than wildfowl of course, I'm sure you do that. Half way into that video you can see him using a spinning rotary decoy, something we find very effective, do you have an equivilant in the U.S?

Great video. Makes me want to get back to the UK to shoot woodies again. Good sport and great eating too.

In my part of the world at least the only non-waterfowl game bird that we decoy are turkeys. Mourning doves aren't legal game where I live but I believe they are decoyed as well in some places.

Interesting that Digweed doesn't like to shoot live game during the competitive clay season because it made him "sloppy."

throdgrain, I heard you're having troubles with magpies as well.
It sounds like it's bird season in the UK! :)

You been watching Top Gear ? :D

This is actually true by the way, there are far too many Magpies and they are eating everything!

We Yanks will be right over with O/U's in hand! :)

I often use dove decoys when after them,Throd. I have some turkey decoys also, though I'm not an active turkey hunter these days.

Thanks for the thread....

Aha nice one, do you have any pictures? Our pigeon decoys look like this -

Indeed! That's where I got it from, mate!

Did I say mate? What's the matter with me?
Anyway, Top Gear happens to be one of my favourite shows on the telly.
Wait! Did I just write...
