American Eagle pilot suspected of having gun in bag

DALLAS, Jan 7 (Reuters) - A pilot for regional jet carrier American Eagle was arrested over the weekend for allegedly trying to take a loaded handgun aboard a plane, according to documents obtained on Tuesday.

Federal screeners allegedly found the handgun in a carry-on bag of pilot William Livingston Jr., 29, as he tried to pass through security at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport on Sunday, according to an arrest report filed by the airport's Department of Public Safety.

Congress has given commercial pilots permission to carry weapons on planes after they have received special training. But the Transportation Department has not yet developed a plan for implementing that program.

The arrest report said Livingston told security officials that his wife packed his bag and brought it to him.

American Eagle is a regional carrier affiliated with American Airlines, which is a division of AMR Corp. (NYSE:AMR - News)

"We take these type of things seriously and we are currently conducting our own investigation into the matter," an American Eagle spokeswoman said.

If the pilot is dumb enough to try to take a loaded gun through security after all that has happened and the changes in security at airports like DFW, then I sure as heck don't want the Einstein flying my plane.

Maybe he was the bossy, "while yer up", "keep the women in her place" type of guy and his wife just got fed up with him when he was too lazy to pack his own bag and thought she would get back at him in a not very nice way! :D

I hope it was just a major foul-up. But even if it was he'll be sacrificed for being nothing more than an American exercising his Constitutional rights.

Do you guys check everything in a bag your wife packs for you?

Line from TOP GUN:

"Hey Mav...Got that number for that truck driving school...Truckmaster I think it is...I think I'm gonna need that!"

I feel for the guy.

Why would you have your wife pack for you? Even if you do, you should still check since you are legally obliged for every item you take with you through security.

I think blaming the wife is fairly typical "It's not my fault" sort of whining.
