Lately, i've been looking for my first handgun. I have a shotgun, but i'd like to get something that i could use with a CCW. Due to the cost of ammunition, i think i'd rather have a 9mm, and i'd like to spend around 500 or so dollars. I'm thinking maybe a Springfield XD9 subcompact, or a Glock 19. I'd like a Sig, but first i'm not sure what model would be good for this purpose, and second they tend to be rather expensive, though i've heard nothing but good things in regards to their reliability. Also i'm not sure as to whether or not some guns that are generally not considered small enough to be concealed would be able to be concealed on my person, since i'm somewhat on the tall side (6' 3"). If anyone could please give me some advice as to what of these three, or even possibly another gun entirely would be best for my purposes i would be greatly appreciative. Just for further info, I think i've ruled out revolvers at this point, so a pistol that is first of all reliable would be what i'd like. Thanks again...

Cost of ammunition? What expensive for you. Midway has CCI 230gr FMJ .45acp 1000rounds for 300 bucks...thats about 3.2 cents per round it dont get much cheaper.

Reliability wise most if not all weapons are very reliable and should not be a problem, even cheaper guns are still decent and should operate always.

XD45acp compact might be nice or a kimber ultra carry CZ...etc.

It was noted that : "Cost of ammunition? What expensive for you. Midway has CCI 230gr FMJ .45acp 1000rounds for 300 bucks...thats about 3.2 cents per round it dont get much cheaper."

Well, if .45acp was 3.2 cents per round no one would buy a 9mm. I assume your math missed a decimal point....that is 30 cents a round, and that is about 3+ X the cost of similar 9mm.

Cost wise, 9mm is tough to beat (unless you go 22lr that is!). For the budget conscious, a used G19 would be the way I'd go :D They are acceptably accurate, 100% reliable, 100% dependable and have a profile that can be easily concealed.
