I currently have a DPMS AR. I love it, shoots great! Recently I have been toying with the idea of a 9mm or 45 cal upper. I have done my searches but wanted some opinions on what would be a good decent priced choice. I have plenty of Colt .45 Mags and carry a Sig 226, magazine compatability would be a consideration. Thanks in Advance, Bill

P.S. Use would be for plinking mostly but possible SHTF in Suburban/Urban environment.

I've got a 9mm project in the works as I type - hopefully by the weekend the carbine gods will smile upon me & my parts will arrive in time for me to take to the range this weekend.

Would be interested in the details and how it turns out. Thanks Bill

I have a Oly 9mm upper...I liked it so much I bought a dedicated lower. Great fun gun and a good transition for new shooter from rimfire to centerfire.

If you are looking for mag compatibility with Colt or Sig systems, I think you are SOL. I'm not personally aware of anything that adapts these to the AR system.

Closest I could think to doing what you want is a Mech Tech upper...they you would need a .45 Auto pistol frame.

Both Olympic and L&G Weaponry make .45 ACP AR uppers, but magazines are a problem with that configuration at present.

Both Olympic and I believe Bushmaster make a 9mm AR which uses Glock mags. probably about as close to compatability with handguns as you will get. the Marlin Camp 45 carbine uses 1911 mags, but it isn't an AR.

Good luck with your hunt.

Tim
