Pistol caliber competitor for the .22 Hornet?

Question.

What pistol caliber rifle is capable to competing with the .22 Hornet?

Good groups at 200 yards, low decibel/recoil.

Or does the hornet own it's niche?




One of my main reasons for asking is that I reload for pistol only. To shoot the Hornet reloading is almost a necessity at .75-per. I'd have to get another press to reload rifle.

Well, the 5.7x28 comes close, not quite there, but very close. The .221 Remington Frireball is better (ballistically) than the hornet, and technically a pistol cartridge....

What press are you using to reload on, it might be able to reload 22 hornet.

A single stage press is not very expensive. How much Hornet did you expect to need, anyhow? If so much, you could sell your SDB for most of what you paid and get a 550.

That's true, I probably wouldn't need enough Hornet to justify setting up reloading for it.

the prob with the SDB is that it uses Dillon dies. I don't think Dillon makes 22 hornet dies, but maybe if you call them up, they might be able too make you some up or if they get enough people asking, they might just start producing them.

I can't find a picture of a .22 Hornet Exemplar. I had one for a few years a few years back. It would do MOA to 150 yards.

There is always the 218 bee or the 22 jet they are both shorter than the Hornet. I have a 22 hornet contender and a 222. I like the 222 because I can down load the 222 to 22 hornet levels but get them hotter is I want. As far as your press goes. You could just get you a cheap Lee. I mean you will spend as much on dies as you would a press.

if i were you i would sell the pistol press and buy a regular progressive

i have an old lyman and it works great for everything i have tried .40s&w, .45 colt, .30 carbine, .30-30, .30-06....... i reload about 12 calibers and this press works great for all of them its made of i believe cast iron heavy duty thing
