several years ago I bought a group of the midway map Loading books , and so far I have had nothing but problems with the lengths specified in the books when it comes to .45 acp rounds , when people make up loads they should see if they will feed in a real gun besides fitting in a pressure barrel . most of the Xtp/hp combos are too long to feed in my .45s (both ramped para's ) and they will not fit/feed in the magizines arrrggghhh!!!!! anyone else having problems??

WOW, my Para eats anything fed to it besides 155 grain SWC, if I could find a light enough spring for them it might just eat 155's too. Anything and everything I have tried just goes through the gun like grain through a goose, both bone stock and after I had it worked over a tad (plating and trigger job mainly). The other Para I had was the same way, and one my buddy has as well. If they will fit in the mags they will feed.

Back the load down a bit and shorten them up. Look for pressure signs as you work back up. When pressure signs are seen OR the chrony is reading velocity listed for a max load stop, go back down a hair and live happy. I have shot less than 300 of the XTP's through my Para, an even split nearly of 230's and 185's. No trouble at all with either.

the specs I would have to back them down to is .050 shorter 1.22 this is the recommendation I get out of several more books, I have several lots of 10 or 20 rounds that will not even fit into the mag due to the bullet design with the lengths listed . its just aggrivating . otherwise my paras feed anything I reload from the waters book , speer manuals and others , all I had to do was polish the ramp up with some flitz that was it . (Para's 6-45lda , 14-45 lda .) I'm not knocking my firearms as they're great .just the suggestions that the book gives .

Midway's COL for 45 acp are just too long for most pistols chambers, with most of the bullets they tested. (especially the jacketed HPs). Need to shorten them up and reduce powder charges for proper functioning in most pistols.

Yes, Midway's OALs for .45 are mostly worthless. Since my pistol will only feed ball anyway it doesn't much bother me ;) The 9mm and .357 books are better. And since all four books (also .44mag) were just $4, I can't complain!

I did not think you were knocking the Para per se, I just thought it was wierd that a Para was choking on HP ammo.

My books all list a 1.275" MAX OAL for the 45 acp, my mags (single and doublestacks) will all accept 1.29" ammo. I have never exceeded 1.275" OAL regardless of bullet type.

I here you Coonan. I recently bought the load map for 45ACP. Just about all the RN aol's are listed at 1.275! Why didn't they use shorter lengths as min. oal. Would have given us some leeway. It's allmost looks like they were too lazy to do decent load work-ups. Very pricey for what we got.

You lucked out Monster. I paid 10-12 bucks for mine several months ago.
