Places to shoot in OKC metro BESIDES H&H and Bob Howard

The title explains it all, folks. I'm thinking about getting back into shooting after a 14-month hiatus, and I don't know if there are any other places in Oklahoma City, Norman, Edmond, Midwest City etc. to shoot besides those two. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

You didn't specify whether you require an indoor range. If not, the Oklahoma City Gun Club has a wonderful range near Arcadia. In Norman, the Tri-City range is pretty good as well. Membership is required at both these ranges. I don't have any phone numbers for the OKC club but Tri-City contacts include: 732-3732, 769-3585, 691-7668,390-9139. Both these clubs require attending certain meetings, participating in workdays, etc.

There is also a free range located at the Lexington WMA. It is only closed during deer season. The Lexington range is east of Slaughterville (south of Noble on Hwy. 77) off of Slaughterville Road. There is an indoor range in Norman called Gun Country (366-1274.) Someone told me they have rather irregular hours so be sure and call them.

You didn't specify indoor or outdoor ranges. Outdoor ranges include the Oklahoma City Gun Club near Arcadia and the Tri-City Gun Club in Norman. You can shoot at the Lexington WMA range for free. It is located east of Slaughterville. Just go south of Noble on Hwy. 77 and turn east on Slaughtervilled Road. There are signs showing you the way once you get near.

Gun Country is an indoor range in Norman. Their number is 366-1274. I hear they keep irregular hours so be sure to call.

It's not your computer, the board is acting up. I've run across a bunch of double and triple posts in the last few minutes.
As for the range, I don't require an indoor, but in the heat of the summer, it would be nice. I'm more of a winter type myself, but I'll work outdoors any time of the year. Now all I need is a gun to shoot...

I'm actually in the Metro area (Del City), but an out-of-town trip wouldn't be too bad. I just wanted to see what the alternatives are. I like H&H, but I haven't been there in a while. I need to get myself warmed back up and so forth. Thanks for the info, guys.

I thought gun country had closed down, I'll drive by tonight and check. I always left there coated in lead dust, probably not too healthy. Being budget minded, I have shot out at Lexinton WMA for the last 6 years. I set up my pistol targets on homemade stands and have at it. The North/South range is 0-85 yards. Of course you've got to be interested in sweating when it is 105 degrees and freezing when the wind chill is -10. Since it is on a WMA you are supposed to have a current hunting license to use the range.

I don't have extensive experience at the OKC club. I was mainly involved with Tri City. I know shooters who belong to both clubs and from what they tell me the two are about the same in terms of new shooters. I would pick the one closest to you.

A Sad Situtation

You all have to admit it but for a city the size of Oklahoma City not to have facilities or places for gun owners and/or enthusists to go to enjoy their world of sport shooting . . . or just places to shoot, is a sad state of affairs. I'm relativley new to this handgun community. I've only been in the city for five years. I too have been looking for places to shoot. Because of the limited resources for shooters and gun owners to go, I have settled on and joined the H & H Shooting Range. It is a very nice facility. They have a great cafe but sometimes I question some of the safety supervision or lack of it that even I as a novce can see and/or recognize surprises me. I would also like some quality handgun instruction if I could find it.

I have looked into Tri City because a friend of mine belongs to that club. I do not shoot trap or skeet so the OKC Gun Club is out. Maybe some day I will beause trap and skeet have always fasinated me. I'd rather shoot inside then outside.

When the winter comes I certainly do not want to be shooting outside so I will continue giving my business to H & H until something else comes along.

If you look at the bright side, at least we (the gun owners of the greater metropolitan area of OKC) do have a few places to hone our shooting skills, enjoy our sport and get away from our cubicles.

So, as I see it right now they might have a corner on the market but I can still shoot my Berettas. Life is good !

An indoor range close to you is Gunworld on sunnylane. They are more expensive then H&H so that's why I use H&H.
I know the indoor range in Norman is closed.
I've called the free range in lexington but they say you have to have a hunting license to shoot there. Even for a handgun. So it's not really free unless you hunt too.
