I have a Remington 700 chambered in 7mm Mag and can't date it.

When I google it everyone says to use this method: http://www.remingtonsociety.com/rsa/questions/barrelcodes

But, as you can see in the attached picture, it does not make sense for my gun. I also have a Remington 710 and it does not work for that gun either.

Maybe I'm just retarded.

As you can see from the picture the barrel says UZ61, and the serial number reads 6866008

Please help.

From Late 99 to late 2001 they stopped stamping date codes on the barrels for some reason I do not recall why. If memory serves me correctly, if you have one with U leading it was one of those models. The stamped the end flap of the box instead of the barrel. It MAY help to see a picture of the full rifle so I could verify this.

from the Remington website:

How can I tell how old my Remington firearm is?
If you will call or email us the serial number and model number we can determine the approximate age of your firearm.

Serial numbers were not required until 1968. For models without a serial number, we may be able to determine the age by the 2-3 letters that are stamped on the barrel.

Contact us through our Help Center by email or call us at 800-243-9700 Mon-Fri 9-5 EST.

Thanks for the help. I called Remington, and it is a 1976 model. The U is mostly and O that did not fully get punched in the barrel.
