I'm pretty strapped for cash this time of the year, so i'm looking to spend around $50 - $70.

He has a stock moison nagant with monte carlo stock, fully stock ar-15, fully stock remington 597 .22, and a stock .45 hi-point pistol.

I thought about getting him a cheap scope for his moison but it needs to be drilled/tapped. Thought about getting him a pair of electronic ear muffs but all the ones around my range seem very mediocre.

I don't know what to get him, wish i had more money, help. :|

Recommend one? (how do you quote a post on here?)

Copy the text of the person you wish to quote..

open the "Post Reply" and click on the yellow text balloon (2nd row, 4th from the right side in the editor)

put the text between the words QUOTE QUOTE (they have brackets..)

A range bag depends on where you are at.. someone might know a store close to you, or suggest an online venue to peruse...

Like this!:neener:

Range bag is a great idea. Range card (if he shoots at a pay-range). I have about 4 range bags of varying sizes. None of them started life as a range bag. One even says "Polo Sport" on it. For a nice, dedicated range bag, check out 5.11.

what about a mosin lol they seem to be in the range

why not a gift card to bass pro or gander mountain ro accadamy which ever he is closer to

AR mags are nice if you can find em in stock and not being price-gouged by somebody. For $50-$70 you should be able to get him 4-6 30rd mags. Plus you can tell him it's a politial statement as well :)

second on the range bag or the ar mags. also a cheap red dot sight for the ar is good. i have found that for the average shooter they are plenty good.

A reactive target stand. Cabela's has nice ones. We got one last year at Christmas and it has been a hoot. The brand is "Do-all Traps." Here is one that is just a scooch outside your budget.

Did I mention they are fun?

Also, in my book, it shows you got a little more creative than just a bag or ammo, but those are good gifts, too.

That is a GREAT idea but the reviews are terrible! :/

Ammo, cleaning gear, spare magazines, holster, slings, tool kit for the range (or a Swiss Army knife), a scope for the .22, etc.; these are just a few things that I have given to friends and family over the years.

I just looked at the reviews for that one and you are right! The one we got was $225 (the centerfire one, good up to 30-06 it said, we've only used .223 or handguns with it). It was much larger and more robust than that item. I didn't click on the right one. That is not the one we got, and I guess it's a cheap Chinese piece o' s. But check this out:

I also go this one (.22 only) and it is really fun. It also has great reviews (4.4 out of 5 - personally I'd rate it 5.5 out of 5). Give it a try if he has a .22 handgun or rifle he likes playing with:

Last year it was $20; now it's $30. And the government says inflation runs 4% per year. I wonder what they buy?

Also, there are other makers and vendors. They generally come in three categories,

1) .22
2) Handgun to .45acp
3) Centerfire Rifle

If you have some backyard space or nearby land to shoot on, these are really fun and sharpen your skills. Your dad would love one.

Generally, we use the .22, and fire a Ruger .22/1911 (the Mark III .22 caliber with the 1911 grip) at it. It really pays off at the range with the full-size 1911.

Non-corrosive ammo is good and you can find mil-surp that is non-corrosive (if you look carefully).

I'd stay away from trying to purchase new optics in that price range.

A rifle bag from Condor can be a good purchase. They are sold in both airsoft and real gun sites. I have some of their products and have been impressed with the quality and durability.

Share as much of your time with your father as possible. That is a gift both can enjoy presently. Remember time flies and we are here for a very short time. If he likes to shoot give him a gift card to the gun range. Range cost is about $8 and ammo is about $40 for a 100 rounds(40 Cal). Here in Palm Bch Florida you have to use ammo furnished by the range, no private ammo.

Dad's gift

I bought a MidwayUSA Range Bag about 6 months ago and am very happy with it. They're on sale for $23.99 right now for Christmas.
Get one. Your Dad will love it and it won't break the bank.
