Lower – Rock River Arms 5.56 Complete Lower

Upper- CMMG 5.56 1-9 twist 16 inch upper with Quadrail and YHM Rear Flip Up Sight.

Some guy ask to trade his AR for my Springfield XD. The only detail he gave me are what listed above. What are those?? What do I look for when I pick up an AR?

The lower is made by Rock River Arms; complete should mean all parts are installed and it is functional. You need to ask if the buttstock is fixed or collapsable. Assuming that there's been no 'screwing around' with someone trying to make the lower's fire control parts into something it shouldn't be [use your imagination on that]. RRA makes a good product.

The upper is made by CMMG, another good product. The 'quadrail' means a handguard that has rails or slots where you can mount however many accessories you'd like on the rails. A variety of manufacturers make quad rail handguards, so quality may be suspect until you find out the manufacturer. A 1-9 twist on a 16 inch upper is a good all around application twist rate, and should be able to handle projectiles from 55 grain to 68-75 grain without any problems.

Overall, it sounds like a good trade, the XD for the AR; but, as an even trade without you having to include any cash, etc.

Spend 8 months on arfcom surfing and you will know. Right now, it's not the deal you should make. Something is either not told to us or you. A $500 handgun doesn't just trade into a $800 AR.

"Some guy" can go trade his AR at the gun dealer and get attention from the owner. He'll see a profit IF "Some guy" can legally buy a handgun.

It probably won't help to mention that most handgun thefts from a home or property were cased by "Some guy" a few weeks prior. Does "Some guy" now know exactly where you keep it? I hope not.

Innocence is a peculiar American trait, we just don't understand that some friendly people can be setting us up until it's too late.

If you can walk into a gun show with a .32 Jennings and leave with an AR you bartered from "Some guy," I apologize. I suspect you wouldn't bother mentioning it here. So, I took it that the temptation of the deal overrode the warning signal that you were dealing with something that doesn't make sense for the reasons I gave.

heck, i would just be wary due to the imbalance of the trade. you can almost get two XDs for what one AR costs. if he will let you take the rifle to a competent gunsmith and everything checks out then i would jump on it.

Ask to run 100 rounds thru it ? and then call the local Police Department and have them run the serial number......sounds like too good of a deal to me...be careful.
