Kent County is requiring a signed statement as to your mental capacity in violation of the "Shall Issue" law when one applies for CCW. They are being sued by Michigan Gun Owners. Present ballot shows the ignorance of most folks about the law and how Kent County is violating it. Please vote.

WOOD 1300 Daily Buzz
Should persons applying for a CCW permit have to prove they're mentally competent?

Yes? 60.00%
No? 40.00%

Grampster, you have a comma at the end of your link that isn't letting it work. Edit it out and it should work fine.

Should persons applying for a CCW permit have to prove they're mentally competent?

Yes? 59.74%
No? 40.26%

Hmmmmmm.....

That's a tough one.

My initial reaction is YES.

But there's a problem with that.

How the hell does one prove he's mentally competent? Define mentally competent. Who decides?

On balance I suppose I'd have to err on the side of freedom and vote NO.

They want me to verify that I'm mentally competent? If I am competent, I would say so. If I was incompetent, .....how would I know??? :banghead:

Good going THR. No slightly ahead now.

To expand a bit, Michigan law says you must personally sign off on your mental stability. No physician or anyone other than yourself is required to confirm that. The Kent County Sheriff is opposed to the Shall Issue law as is the County Clerk. They have been dragging their feet and obstructing the implementation of the law in Kent County from the get go. They don't finish the paperwork in a timely fashion and applicants have to wait innordinate amounts of time to get their CCW paperwork.

WOOD radio has several national conservative talk radio programs on the air daily as well as a couple local shows that are fairly neutral insofar as the hosts are liable to go off in a number of directions depending on the subject and they play devils advocate sometimes. All in all a good station to listen to. I noticed that the question about the gun permit tended to be loaded as it did not explain that what the sheriff and clerk are doing is illegal, so that's why I asked ya'll to even the playing field a little bit with some votes from other than blissninnies that don't know the facts.
:scrutiny:

Voted, and noticed a couple of interesting things from the outset. One is that that they show the poll results before you vote. Second is that "Yes" is the default setting for the radio button.
