I have problems racking the slide on semi autos - any one here owns an AMT Backup - I found one in .45 Cal. on Gunbroker. Has any one here handled, fired one of these babies - is it dependable, hard to rack the slide?... tell me about it. I need to find an easy to rack pocket pistol. I found plenty in .380 - but I rather not go with that round, unless there is a desirable .380 ammo for it (?).... any other ideas besides the AMT? Thanks.

The AMT's are either great, or junk. If you get a good one you will love it. If you get a bad one put it back on gunbrooker.:)

Hard to tell you what is easy or difficult to rack, since this is very subjective. Maybe it would be helpful for you to tell us what you can rack, and which models give you problems.

I would think that most blowback actions would be a problem, but don't know if other designs will give you problems. Have you considered a packet revolver, something like a 642?

As you suggest, most blowback types are difficult for me to rack, but I have not tried the all. I did own a 642 and felt skimpy, in comparison to my PC 640. Nest time I'm at the gun store I'm going to try the New S&W carry pistol to see if I can handle the slide. Thanks for your input.

I have a couple AMT Backups and I have slide and barrel combinations for 4 different calibers in all. I guess I got a good one, because I love mine and carry it in 40S&W most of the time. I have found that the mag lips, even on brand new factory mags often need to be adjusted. The factory mags are hard steel so it is no easy job to move them just the little bit they need, but when the mags are adjusted properly, I find they are flawless. I think most of the problems with these guns are just little quality control adjustments. I certainly don;t have any problem racking the slide, but I don;t hhave a problem with anything. They do have a HEAVY trigger though, so they may not be for you.

Thanks Roll Tide - As some one suggested elsewhere, there a good ones and there some not so good ones, as with anything else.

Check out the Kahr line at your local gunshop. I have a PM9 and like it very much but think it a little heavy for pocket carry. It is a bit snappy and difficult
to push out the slide release, otherwise it is a great concealed carry piece.

I did own an MK9 Elite, but sold it for the reasons stated; the Rohrbauh, smaller then the Khar, is more punishing and even harder to rack. Thanks every one.
