A friend gave me a shotgun that he had left in his garage that had rusted pretty badly to refinish for him.
I've stripped the metal with blue and rust remover now I need to repolish it. The problem is I don't know the best way to go about this? The gun is pitted I guess but nothing deep that would effect the strength of the barrel or receiver. Any suggestions on polishing rusted metal that is beyond where steel wool will do the trick?
Thanks in advance,
Matt

If the pits are shallow, emery cloth will work. Otherwise draw file, then emery. Use jugement as to the grit. Don't dig deep with that file - I've seen refinish jobs that looked good with a good surface polish (hand done with wet-or-dry silicone sandpaper) and a blue. You could still see some light pitting but it didn't really detract from the final appearance.

You might consider an alternative like Duracoat and Durafill (the latter to fill in the pits.)
