Fella's;

I recently took advantage of the sale on LHB Tikka's & obtained one to turn into what, in my experience, is one of the rarest configurations in da woild. Yes, the left hand Tikka action will be rebarreled to 6.5 X 55 Swedish Mauser. To provide some information that'll help, the gun is blue & the stock will be wood. It's purpose in life will be as an active hunting rifle. It won't be the only hunting rifle I have, nor will it fill a vast and gaping void in the battery.

So, I now have choices, please feel free to voice your opinion on the following:
1. Standard stock, 24" barrel
2. Standard stock, 22" barrel
3. Standard stock, 20" barrel
4. Mannlicher stock, 20" barrel
5. Mannlicher stock, other barrel length.

Thanks for taking part.

Cb - as my own gun and hunting knowledge has expanded I have developed some very strong biases on what a hunting rifle should be. A lot of that is based on chambering.

In your example, I like a 19" #1 contour in stainless with a forearm trimmed to proper proportions (standard stock, only shortened) in a pepper laminate stock that has had the butt and forearm hollowed out.

Any shorter than 19 and muzzle blast is a real problem. The laminate stock looks right with a ss/blue gun, and you'll be able to go forth and slay a bunch of stuff with confidence. Should we also go ahead and spend your money on the scope while we're at it?

I think #4 would be an excellent choice as well.

the Mannlicher's ALWAYS look classy. the 20" shouldn't give up too much on velocity and be a very well handling rifle in most any condition.

You will have to post pics of this project when you are finished. :)
