I just purchased a 800B ponsness warren for 12 guage. I've never reloaded a shotshell in my life. This press needs a shot bushing and a powder bushing. I can get them at reloaders.com. How do I know which powder bushing to get? I know I will be using 700X Dupont powder. 1 oz shot loads for skeet and 1- 1/8 oz shot loads for trap. This press is one I purchased on ebay and will be a welcome addition to my bench.

You don't until you know what hull and what wad you will be using - find an exact recipe in a reputable manual for the exact, without any substitutions including no primer substitutions, load and then buy a bushing that throws that amount of powder.

For extra points buy one that throws light and hone it out to throw exactly as used in the press - with vibrations from cycling the press during actual loading operations - or if it throws heavy then do something to take up a little space say add just a pinch of Bondo to reduce the bushing capacity until it throws exact.

Same applies to shot really, ideally weigh or count the shot or use drilled holes on something similar to a ping pong paddle to dip up an exact count but the bushings are close enough for all practical purposes - bearing in mind that finer shot may pack tighter so the bushing should be checked and may be different depending on size of shot - mostly the finer shot doesn't show a big difference between 7-1/2 or 8 but there can be real differences when the shot sizes get to be really different.

Also, you might be interested to know that Hornady (or Pacific) bushings, both powder and shot, are interchangable with PW. Unless life has changed, Hornady has a much greater selection than PW does. Or if you have a lathe, make your own--easy as falling out of a well into a tree--nothing to it, but you pretty much do need a lathe.

Congrats. IMHO PW is the Ruger of reloading. Underbuilt is not in their creed. If you are going to be using one load, tune the bushings to be exact as noted above, otherwise get a powder scale and a set of Lee dippers and cut an old AA hull for the shot measure.

You are just starting out reloading shotshells and you bought a PW 800? :what:

Must be nice to be rich. . . .

I've been reloading for 25+ years and I'm still using a Lee Load-All. :D

I got my loader on wednesday. It's saturday and I've run about 400 rounds through it. I got to say I'm extremely happy with my purchase. I would recommend this press to anyone.

Call P/W and ask for a 2008 catalog. Part of the catalog is a listing of the bushings (shot bushings are listed by letter & corresponding weight of the shot charge). Most powder manufacturers have a table in the back of their catalog that lists the correct powder by bushing letter.
