Here in Arkansas (at least where I live/hunt) the deer population is way down and while I was lucky enough to take a couple bucks last year, but I haven't taken any this year (so far). Somewhere around 300K people were expected in the woods opening morning and it gets worse every year. You folks who are in places where you can walk out to your stand and sit there for 30 mins. or an hour and see 4 or 5 deer are lucky. It is a common routine here to sit on your stand and not see anything for 2 or 3 days, and that's hunting 6 or 7 hours a day. There's a good possibility that you may see only 2 or 3 deer in an entire week. I love to hunt but, it just seems like it gets worse every year. I only wish I could complain about over-population. G & F officials have cut the season limit to 2 bucks (three-point rule) and no doe, so it's half-grown bucks or nothing at all. Anyhow, rant over. No pics to post yet. Hopefully before the end of season I will though.

I think what cut down the overall population here in NW Arkansas was allowing does to be taken in modern firearms season in the last couple years. We didn't have the proplems like they do in the southern part of the state, but we got included in the "thinning down the herds".:banghead:

I would totally agree with that. I was raised up hunting here, and there has never really been a season where you could take doe except for the last 3 or 4 years. I've only killed one doe my whole life, but they really put a hurting on the overall population by letting people kill doe. I'll have to admit I did kill one the first time they were allowing it, but I sure do wish the population would start rising again. Anyone know where I can go to hunt where there is A)plenty of public land, B) not expensive and C) plenty of deer? Or is this a dream land?

Problem is lack of Public Land that is handy

The Public land deer seem to be way to pressured and wary, their there just very pressured.

Now the private land hunting is great, I have seen multiple doe's every trip and the bucks are not rutting very hard.

Now if you guys make a trip over to the Buffalo Area, and get way back in the woods, the deer are plenty, and really big, but it's a hike.

Truthfully, josefidelity, there are those that do that here. I hate to know that it is actually true, but it is.

All year long! You've got to be kidding! There's too many ticks in the spring and summer.:D

The private land to hunt is getting hard to find. The "get rich fast" folks are buying the big farms and selling them off in 10 to 20 acre lots. Most of the time they get bought by city folks who don't want to even hear a gun shot.Every year I hear more and more people say they don't have anywhere to hunt.
