ok so i have been wanting an ar type rifle for awhile and finally got some money to pick one up i originally wanted to get a smith and wesson mp15 but no one has one instock and most places around me said they were out of stock or backordered even before recent events.

i was able to find a dpms and would like some thoughts or opinions on this one, if you guys and gals dont mind. it is on hold for me but i want to be sure it is a decent buy as it is my first ar platform.here is a link to the one im looking at so what do you think yay or nay also the price is marked 769.00 but considering the time and events im sure i wont get it cheaper anywhere else.

Get it while you can. Buying panic has depleted nearly all AR's in stock. That's not a bad price and I've heard both good and bad about DPMS, mostly that they're decent though.

as bad as i want to get one while i can i would like to make an informed purchase and not one i will regret later just because of the time or circumstances. i understand that if i dont get it now i might or might not get it later. i suppose i could get this one for my first one then once i gain more knowledge and learn what i like or dislike i could add to it or buy another at a later date if we are still able. thanks for the quick reply

Dont really know what you are looking for but this gun is very similar to the sportical offered by DPMS that was... at Wal Mart for $599. I would say if you are dead set and dont mind paying MSRP this is as good as your gonna get for a while. Every store around here is out of ARs and dont know when there willl be any.

My first AR was a DPMS with a 16" light contour barrel. I've had it for a few years now and I have yet to have any problems. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. Unfortunately there are some DPMS "haters" out there but in my experience most of those people simply feel the need to justify their more expensive AR's to others and talk down on rifles that cost less than $1500.

I'd say go for it!

If the M&P would have been right for you, the DPMS will be a great choice. I think S&W has a great entry level AR, and I'm very satisfied with my DPMS.

Might as well buy it, I have had offers of $1000 for my plain Jane AR in the last few days and refused to sell:eek: it was a $550 build. Prices are going up for the uninformed/unprepared

My Del-Ton cost me $700 give or take a few $. One of my friends offered me $1000 for it. I passed. It would be a gamble to sit back and wait to see if a AWB passes or not. If one goes into effect then prices will be astronomical for pre ban ARs. If it doesn't pass then I think prices will still be a little higher. You'd be ok either way.

Like you, I've been wanting one for a while now, trying to talk myself into it all year. Unfortunately, I'm a cheap SOB, and I've spent most of my expendable income getting back into tennis over the last couple of years. Being sufficiently stocked in handguns and shotguns, and with access to what my father has, I keep asking myself if I really need it that badly. Given what has happened over the last week, I think I've missed the boat. Currently I'm thinking of just picking up a stripped lower receiver and a couple of magazines (if I can find them), and adding the rest over the next few months. If money is tight, and you really want to get one anyway, maybe you should look at this option as well.

right now is not the time to buy an AR, prices are sky high, panic set in. wished I had bought about 10 ARs 2 weeks ago, could have tripled my money. right now, if you just got to have one and got the money...well...anyone buying an AR right now is getting screwed.

That price seems plenty fair right now. People are paying more than that for lowers.

The DPMS isn't a bad rifle, it's just not the best. But look at it this way; If you decide you don't like it, you can probably double your money a month from now!

If one goes into effect then prices will be astronomical for pre ban ARs

Or $0, if the language does not allow transfers of pre ban articles (quite possible)

True, but wouldn't there be a date where it would take effect thus allowing sales at hugely inflated prices? Posted from Thehighroad.org App for Android

i went ahead and picked it up i also put a R.R.A. carry handle with site on it and grabbed 5 magpul mags and 450 rounds of ammo, i feel the price was fair considering the circumstances im sure i could have got a better rifle at a similiar price a few months ago. but as it usually goes when i have the money there are not many good deals or its just bad timing and when i dont have the money the deals are everywhere and its the perfect time.i feel for my first A.R. it will help me learn and figure out what i like and dislike then later i can build one up, that is if we are still able. thanks for all the replys it is appreciated now i just got to get out and shoot the thing.

Congrats. You did ok for this current climate. AR manufacturers are going to be turning out as much as they can until this is settled. The prices will stay high due to increased demand for a while longer if not for good. You have peace of mind knowing you've got yours no matter what Congress does.
