Hey everyone I’m new to this site and it seems like there are a lot of knowledgeable people on here so I was hoping someone could possible answer this question or throw me some input. I recently purchased a Stevens 320 pump shotgun with the ghost sights and pistol grip. The problem with the gun is that you can rack the slide without pressing the action release button. I wasn’t sure if it was just mine so I went back to Big 5 and the 2 other Stevens 320 pump shotguns could do the same thing. I called Savage today and they said that this shouldn’t happen. So I was wondering if anyone else has this model and if it did the same thing? Or had this issue on any other shotguns and if it was safe to shoot? I have an 870, 500, and model 37 and they all lock up tight and cannot be racked unless the action release is pressed. I tried it on a Stevens 350 at the store and it also locked up and couldn't be racked unless the button was pressed. So I'm not sure if its just a problem with the 320 or what. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Yeah you are right. But was just wondering if anyone else had a 320 and if it could do this. Because the lady I talked to on the phone from Savage didn't really give me a whole lot of input she just said that "I must be pulling the trigger or something." But when I told her I wasn't she kinda just gave me a fall back answer of "yeahs its broken send it to us." I just found it weird that 2 more brand new guns at the store had the same issue. So I was hoping others with this model could chime in.

Well, it seems to me if they didn't need an action release button for something, they wouldn't have bothered to put one on it.

Sounds like yours and the two guns at the store all had the same problem.

All I can suggest is pop out the trigger group and see if you can find anything sticking or dry of oil.

If that does no good, call Savage again and get a call tag to send it back.

Stevens was never tacticool. They never came with ghost rings. With luck you can figure out what happened. Your gun sounds like a failed slap gun experiment.

I do have the same model of shotgun (minus the pistol grip and ghost rings), and after some quick double-checking, it DOES NOT have this same problem.

Perhaps that Big5 got a bad batch of the same model?

Whatever happened, I hope Savage makes it right, as I love my 320, and it saddens me that you're not having the same experience with yours

Not the first time I have been wrong about something. That is the first Tacticool Stevens I have ever seen. But I am not a big Stevens fan. That still doesn't change what I think is wrong with the gun. Fixing the gun is the point of the thread.

"Here's a pistol gripped Stevens 320 w/ ghost rings out of the box."

"Fixing the gun is the point of the thread." :)

Thanks Baron for chiming in about your 320. I guess i will take it back to Big 5. I opened it up cleaned it all out and still the same problem. It's kind of a bummer I really like the look and feel of the gun. And I got it $198 brand new so that wasn't a bad price for having ghost ring and pistol grip. Thanks everyone.

I had that same issue with my 320 . So i took the thing all apart to see if the problem was noticeable or if they was even an issue . Nothing looked out of order so i put it back together and it no longer had that problem again. Idk if that helps you much .
