Powder for a 38 Special?

Your unique load was dirty because that is a pretty mild load. Work your way up to the max load and I would expect you to find it gets more accurate and cleaner.

Try Tite Group, It works great on most every bullet & you don't have to fill the case. I use 3gr with 148 gr HBWC seated to 1.3, that puts the bullet closer to the forcing cone and i believe this is one of my most accurate rounds

I have had great luck with Vihtavuori n310 for Cowboy loads. Fast burning and very clean.

Just to add to the mix, I use Alliant's Power Pistol for 9mm, .38 Spl, and .357 Mag. It is very clean burning and yielded pretty good accuracy out of all 3 calibers. 124 grain FMJ in 9mm and 125gr JSP in .38 Spl/.357 Mag. Unique does a nice job out of my old S&W Pre-mod 10 for .38 S&W Ctg. Power Pistol and Unique are both readily available in Wichita.

+1 for Unique and Trailboss.
.7 cc trailboss & a 158 grain LRN make a sweet shooting round. No leading. Just so you know, though, Trailboss has an 'odd' smell when fired.

Bullseye!

But what would I know....

I've only been using it since the late '60's in .38 special. Still use it in our local Bullseye matches.

At over 2000 shots-per-pound and less than 2" groups at 25 yards, how can you go wrong?

I've been using Ramshot Silhouette with home cast 158 lswc's. I load it hot (+p+) for use in my GP100,Blackhawk, and Marlin Cowboy Special. Works similar to Unique, but MUCH cleaner. It also meters very well.

This load doesn't go well with my 642 snubbie though, one cylinders worth convinced me of that (along with the swollen knuckles) :what:......
