I am in the market for a new powder measure/dispenser. I am leaning towards the Lyman#55. I would like to hear pros and cons of this one and others. I have been using the powder dispenser that came with my Dillon 450 since about 1983 when I bought the Dillon. It still works great but I am expanding and putting my sons to work reloading. Please share your experience with me. Incidentally, I estimate I have reloaded more than 300,000 rounds on this Dillon and it still works as well as the first day....best wishes and thanks for any help.

The Lyman #55 is a good measure. One of the few that doesn't need a separate rotor to go between rifle and pistol loads. But owing to the multiple slide bars that make that happen, there are a lot of thumb screws to come loose and help you loose adjustment if it's going to be mounted on a 450.

If your intention is to mount it on the press, then I'd advise you to buy another Dillon PM and permanently set one up for large slide bar and dedicate the other to the small slide.

But if you want an accurate PM you can set off to the side on the bench top, and use for accurate rifle loads, then the #55 is probably a good choice.

There are many choices out there and as such I have purchased a pile of them used at various times. They all work reasonably well to me but I have to agree my Lyman 55 is about the best all around measure there is. The Lee Perfect Powder Measure is the next best IMHO and is the best if you are considering price first. I also have an older Pacific (Hornaday), a Little Dandy, as well as an older Herters and use them all with regularity. I find it easier to dial in a charge with the 55 when using a bulky propellant as you can tune it exactly for that load that day.

I truly feel the Lyman #55 is probably the best available because of it's 3 stage adjustments but because of their lack of customer service, if i were buying today it would be a RCBS Uniflow because it's just about as good as the #55 but the RCBS customer service is second to none...
