I can not find any load data(grains, lengths etc) for Power Pistol for a 9mm reload using Berry's 124 grain plated bullets. Alliant customer service is useless! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

I don't know if this will help or not but try Handloads.com

I saw at least 4 loads using Power Pistol but I didn't take the time to see which bullet or weight? This is a user friendly site but keep in mind that these are handloader "loads" from individuals like you and I, so best to compare them to loading manuals, etc., if possible

For your 9mm just select pistol and then 9mm and select "all" which will give you the info on all of the handloads for the 9mm.

Plenty of info out there for 124gr FMJ. Just use that. Start low, work up, just like usual.

Have you tried manual or Alliant's online reloading center? Those would be the first places I would check

Welcome to the forum...

http://www.berrysmfg.com/faq-q21-c1-Load_Data_for_Berrys_Preferred_Plated_Bullets.aspx

"Currently published load data is limited to some calibers by Accurate, Western Powders and Hodgdon. We are working with these companies to get data published for all of our bullets.

We recommend using hard cast load data or start with mid-range jacketed data. Make sure data is below 1250fps unless you are using a Thick-Plated bullet that we list a higher max velocity for like the 9mm 124gr HBRN-TP that can be shot to 1500fps in open class guns like a .38 Super. Keep in mind that since our plated bullet has the same pressure curve as a hard cast bullet, the published cast data will be very close to what you will get with our plated bullets. If you use Jacketed data with our plated bullets you can get from 5% - 8% increase in velocity using that data.

Other than the data from Western and Accurate for the 9mm, .40S&W and Hodgdon .40S&W there is no printed data available."

Usually that is a pretty good indication that powder is unsuitable for that bullet. Use something else.

But in this case it is not a indication. Most manuals were printed before plated became so popular, I agree Alliants online data leaves a lot to be desired compared to say Hodgdons

How much data can you find for the new coated or painted bullets?;)

PP is a excellent powder for the 9mm and 40 SW. As mentioned there is lots of data for FMJ and as should be known by now plated bullets use the low to mid range of FMJ or even lead data for the dame weight profile bullet.

Poer Pistol Data

I have had excellent results with Power Pistol using low to mid range jacketed data of the same shape/weight. I have loaded 40 S & W, 9x19 & 45ACP using this method. Lymans # 49 manual has a lot of loading data using PP.

There is all kinds of data for 124 gr. and Power Pistol. Below is a few published sources.

Hornady - 4.3 - 5.7
Sierra - 4.7 - 5.7
Speer - 5.6 - 6.4

Alliant shows a max charge of 6.6 grs., which reduced 10% gives a start charge of approximately 5.9 grs. for jacketed.

Sierra 125gr JHP, 5.3 gr Power Pistol @ 1.090 OAL, CCI500, Starline brass = 1150-1160 ft/ps MV in a stock G34.

Barry's 124 gr hp, 5.4 gr PP does pretty good in the G34

Also, there is little if any data for Power Pistol with cast lead bullets. I have found Power Pistol to perform wonderful with cast bullets.

I loaded mine at 5.7gr PP and 1.142" COAL. Cycles reliably in a G19 and a S&W Shield. Not quite NATO but it's a little more brisk than factory. I haven't chronoed the load.

Edit to add: I use 124gr Xtreme and RMR plated bullets for all of my practice ammo.

As far a jacketed ammo, I load 124gr JHP Precision Delta using 5.2gr, OAL 1.100". They are hitting around 1040fps on the chronograph. This is my standard 'range' load. Bayou Bullets, 124gr LRN, work well with this load also. Those I can load to 1.130, (one of my pistols has a short throat). I've loaded the JHPs up to 6.1gr, they're getting a bit 'warm'.

I use 5.6gn of Power Pistol with Xtreme 124gr HP (target bullets for accuracy) with a OAL of 1.100, I get average of 1110fps.

The Hornady manual has some PP loads I think. Like mentioned, it's ok to use low to mid level jacketed data for plated.

Went to the range to Chrony some new developed rounds with Power Pistol.

SIERRA 125gn JHP, SPEER BRASS, WSP, OAL 1.075 from a STAR30M 9mm
each set was 10 rounds.

PP 5.2, avg 1075fps
PP 5.3, avg 1089fps
PP 5.4, avg 1117fps
PP 5.5, avg 1124fps
PP 5.6, avg 1128fps

I get the best accuracy with the 5.5gn load.

power pistol can be used anywhere unique can. Its a just a tad slower burning so for the most part unique data can be used with it.

Just use mid range jacketed data, works great for me. Otherwise, the Hornady folks seem to like PP, especially in 9mm and their manual has quite a few recipes IIRC.

I load 9mm with 124gr Xtreme plated bullets. My Dillon 550b is setup for in right now.

I worked the charge up and discovered better accuracy back down at 5.3 grains. Good powder, meters well. I would follow lefty's advice above.
