It's worked for me on more than one occasion!

:)

From personal experience, the S&W 442/642 will always go off when the trigger is pulled - the Walther PP/PPK/PPS pistols won't. The S&W J frame "Airweights" are MUCH lighter - and a bit more compact. The .38 Spl +P is on par with the 9MM (better than the .32 or .380 Autos) - and there is a much broader variety of power levels and bullet configurations with the .38 than the .32 / .380 Autos. The super compact 9MM's are okay - but they should be considered "exotics" - if you know exactly what you want, fine - if you don't, avoid them. The Walther's may be a bit more accurate at longer ranges - but at typical SD ranges the S&W J frames are perfectly acceptable. A S&W 642 can be had brand new most anywhere for $350 (give or take $20). S&W has a lifetime warrenty and good service reputation (i.e. a good gun for as long as you care to own it).

Also - with a baby on the way - consider that it's much easier to determine if the revolver is unloaded or not than the auto (if not for you - the wife). Also the revolver is simpler to operate in the hands of persons not necessarilty "into" guns (i.e. the wife home alone with the baby).

The bottom line is, get the S&W 642. Get rid of the Walther if it comes down to a choice between one or the other. The Walther's are 1920's designs originally intended for uniformed military & police holster carry. The S&W J frames are more modern designs for concealed police back up and private citizen personal protection - and thus better suited for "serious" purposes.

First off I carry my ssPPK/S in my pocket almost every day if not in pocket on hip. never considered the weight a problem . When your PPK bites you that a love bite Sort of a pistol hickey. Get the wheel gun if you must but don t get rid of PPK

I'm not really sure how...

...but I managed to get a 642 and KEEP THE PPK.

Ha-ha-ha-ha (evil) laugh. The wife folded. Ha-ha-ha-ha.

It is an absolutely georgous gun. Granted I haven't shot her yet, but she is light and compact, and good to look at. Well, I find her good to look at. My wife keeps telling me to "but that damn gun away".

Thank you for all your help and advice.

I'd like to ask a few questions, that I can't research, or at least until somepoint tomorrow. The gun shop is open today, and well, MUST GET NEW TOYS!!!

Holster- I bought and Uncle Mike's pocket holster for $10-15. Seems to work ok. There is a Rica or Rico or something that I keep reading about that I may get. I was thinking of a K&N like I have for my PPK, but am wondering about the weight. How about a OWB? I have a Don Hume #42 (Elite series?) for the PPK. Good idea for the 642? Can I go "strapless", or am I better with a strap on a hammerless.

Speedloader: Bought an NKS, as that was all they had in stock. OK?

Ammo: Bought some range stuff. Also bought some Glaser Silver at 6 for $12.00!!! Any other ideas?

Anything else y'all can think of? This is really my first revolver, so I am new at this.

Cleaning kit: have one for the PPK, figured I'd use the same stuff. I also found the link on "How to clean your revolver".

Moderators-

If y'all want to move this to the Revolver section, I won't be offended (not that anyone cares about little old me!). It seems to have gone that way.

Maybe not now. I'd use that Uncle Mikes until it's worn out.
It's a decent holster for the price. Light in weight, and does the job.
I've used mine for quite a while, and it's still holding up.

I started off with a uncle mikes pocket holster, then the edge start curling and the gun wouldnt sit right. I then upgraded to a desantis nemesis holster, which worked fine, but kept the gun at the wrong angle in the pocket. I pruchased a few weeks ago a Pocket Concealment Holster for my j-frame and love it. Holds the gun in the same position every day, allows me to get a great firing grip and stays in the pocket on the draw each and every time. The uncle mikes and desantis holsters are ok, but I highly recomond getting a pocket holster from one of the respectable dealers(ie azael, or pcs or anybody recommonded on this board)

All your problems will be solved with the Bersa Thunder 380 and it's cost should be less than $250. I picked mine up used for $175 and it is great! Regards, Richard:D
