I've seen a number of threads here highlighting press coverage of gun purchases since the election. And then there is a thread about prices going up and scarcity.

I wanted to remind everyone that this is a VERY good thing for us.

Everyone remembers the Clinton AWB in 1994. Practically everyone attributes the historic Democratic loss of the House and Sentate to one issue: The Clinton AWB.

1994 was the year that gun owners showed their strength and punished many legislators for passing that legislation. Many who were not passionately attached to the issue of gun control lost their seats because they were attached via a vote or by party affiliation. Political analysts and advisors have not forgotten this lesson.

The people that Obama relies on to both draft and pass any AWB legislation are reading the same articles as we are. And they remember one thing:

It will not be OBAMA that loses his job in 2010 if they pass an AWB. It will be them.

I encourage you to print the articles that you see about the increased gun sales, magazine sales and the amount of money VOTERS are paying because of this election. Send them with notes to your Congressmen and Congresswomen.

Ask them where do they think all that money will go if an AWB is in force? That's right-- into efforts to throw THEM out of office.

This could well be the beginnings of another whiplash from gun owners that has political consequences. Remind them of that!

You may well want to include a few articles about how the INTERNET gun community (which really had none of the voice we have now) dealt with Jim Zumbo over a Memorial Day weekend when the NRA and most corporations were not even in the office!

Never has the gun community had the tools and voice that it does today. In 1994, we united into a powerful force and severe consequences. Today, there is no excuse for not repeating the SAME thing.

Good post! I vote it gets moved to the activism forum though. You actually laid out some excellent courses of action.

On one hand... I tend to agree with you... the people who advise BHO, as well as the ones who will be placing their names on the legislation definatly read the press, not to mention most of them remember what happened in 1994 and the aftermath.

On another hand... the public outcry AGAINST the Bailout bill was probably the most vocal and opinionated I have EVER seen the American public. 9 out of 10 callers into the various House Reps were against it. I actually SPOKE TO my rep and he expressed the same opinion... that he had not seen public outcry on this scale as long as he could remember...swaying in one direction so feverently. Despite the public outcry and the publics opinion, the public's representatives (you know, the people who are supposed to be OUR voice in Washington... the word Representative is definition enough...) voted AGAINST the voice of the 'represented' people in almost every jurisdiction.

Taxation WITHOUT representation at it's worst. Our tax dollars were at stake and when we (for once) voiced how we wanted it dealt out, we got a political slap in the face.

So I guess it is a toss up. Just dont depend on public outcry to sway the policy makers in Washington, they dance to their own tune 99.999999% of the time. And they know now that they can rely on each other (figuratively speaking) now that the liberal left has the majority in the house, senate and executive seats.

Anyone have any different logic on this one...?

I'm not gay and wouldn't support gay marriage if the subject ever came up, but I will give credit where credit is due... those protesting the gay marriage ban in California should serve as a good example to all of us. I hope that when the time comes (if it isn't already here) we will be as vocal and coordinated as they are in standing up for our rights. We cannot afford to not be vocal here. Hunters, collectors, competitive target shooters, concealed carry advocates, ALL our guns are at risk and we run the risk that ammo will be priced out of reach of all but the very wealthy. ANY gun ban rumblings should not be taken lightly when "that one" takes office.

MIgunguy,

Exactly.

My father is your quinessential hunter. A "Fudd," if you will.

However, I am both a hunter, a CCW holder, and an EBR enthusiast. In fact, my hunting rifles for the last 20 years have been primarily EBRs.

Anywho...

Dad and I were talking a week or so ago and he said this...

I suppose you are worried about another assault weapons ban (he remembers how I was in 1994).

After some discussion, he said this that got my attention:

You know John, it isn't just your guns. Your guns are evil "Assualt Weapons," but my deer rifle is a precision sniper rifle when they describe it. Our shotguns are street sweepers and room clearers, and our .22 rifles are "Quiet Assassination rifles."

He then said:

They want them all. But they will start with yours. We have to remember that when they start to pick on one group of us.

He then told me that he and my mother have signed up for CCW classes. There was an attempted abduction on my mother a bit back and she finally decided that she would never feel safe unless she carried something. It started him to thinking as well.

We have to remember that we all-- EBR owner, hunter, target shooter, clays shooter, and everyone else-- are in this boat together.

It is our responsibility to educate.

Tonight, on french TV new, there were interviews of gunshops owners talking about many customers buying a lot of guns right now, fearing future bans.. including republican voters, AND Democrats...

and the stupid journalist to add this comment...

"though, Obama, in his campaign clearly stated that he was not against the RKBA, and only want to ban "assault" weapons, and prevent children and felons to get acess to firearms.." (while showing images of various semi auto AR's, 16 and 20 inchers)

Not very high road... but this journalist clearly has NO idea of what assault weapons are...

Here in Europe they still see Obama as the Messiah... The wake up (some already know that Obama is a pain in the ..... economically speaking for europe... see the Tanker contract won by Airbus and now jeopardized..) will be painfull for those dreamers

Ladies and gentlemen, we all really don't know what's ahead. We may differ on ideas and firearms budgets and tastes, but when the chips are down, let's stick together, even if it hurts. I was at the Wenamacher's Gun Show in Oklahoma today - one of the world's largest every year in the USA. The line to get in the place was REALLY long! There was a section where you could sign up for the NRA and they would waive the entry fee of $10.00 , they would give you an entry ticket to skip the waiting in line, plus the NRA price for the day was only $25.00 Since I needed to renew, I jumped on the deal.

Everyone was civil that I met. The liberals and gun-grabbers definitely wouldn't fit in there. Actually, from the three hours I spent there today, it was probably one of the safest places in town to meet, and to share opinions. I was proud of the gun owners of the southeast region today. :D

Yes, seriously, I only spent three hours. It was dizzying. I've NEVER been around that many people packed in one place and that busy in a long time. Gave me a very painful headache. I did most of my gun-related buying a few weeks ago, so this time I was volunteering to help some friends shop for reloading supplies. I hate it when a shooter gets ripped off. We actually found some very good deals on brass and bullets, surprisingly. Yes, we actually did !!!

Just remember--the outcry against the Immigration "reform" bill was deafening, too. All that did was to send its advocates back to the drawing board and of course both presidential candidates soft-pedalled their intentions to push for amnesty when the opportunity arises. The bailout was similarly strongly opposed, and congress rolled over and played dead on that one, too.

I'm afraid that the Washington establishment has figured out that it can pretty well ignore the electorate and get away with it.

All they have to do is make the right noises, promise the moon, slip and slide around, and in the end people will take it.

What do you think distractions are for, if not to keep the peasants focussed on other things?

Taxation WITHOUT representation at it's worst. Our tax dollars were at stake and when we (for once) voiced how we wanted it dealt out, we got a political slap in the face.

So.....if you and everyone else allows these elected representatives to serve another term, you and everyone else that was misrepresented just wrote them a ticket to continue to do anything they want any time they want.

If 99.9% of the incumbent congress found themselves without a political job after the next election based on their "bailout" decission, perhaps they would learn a new lesson. If they don't learn, not a problem, always another election coming up in 2 or 4 years. ;)

what they are doing is basically saying "we'll not listen to you because we're sure this will work." If the bailout helps enough or is overshadowed by them fixing the economy, then they'll be forgiven as usual.

Problem here is that passing a gun ban does not have any "let's see if this in the end makes people happy" issue. A gun ban instantly displeases up to 100 million people, and does so indefinitely. There is nothing there to forgive or to make work afterwards.

That's the difference in the issues...but, bleh.

gun bans

I once asked a very anti-gun politician why he voted for CC and against a gun ban law. His replay? The first job of a politician is to get elected, his second is to get reelected. The gun issue is a 3ed rail, and he wanted nothing to do with it. Oboma was elected by apx 5% [ Mc Cane] had 46%], he can not afford to piss off any body . He also can only vito, not propose laws. While he may appoint Supreme Court Justus, once they are conformed they are out of his control, and have a nasty habit of voting as they please. Also the Court is very reluctant to over turn its past rulings.

The area to watch is Congress, keep them reminded that you elect them and a vote for gun control is a vote for unemployment.

Almost all publicity is good publicity and this is EXCELLENT publicity
