Walked into a shop the other day and saw a used 1006 w/ adjustables. (No Night-sights). The tag was reduced to $550.00 It was problably 96% with most of the wear on the grip. Grips are cheap. I think this price is just par for the course but wanted to bounce it off of you guys. Not bad but not great IMO but then I have nothing to compare it to. And the 10mm (one of my favorite calibers) are getting harder and harder to find. I have a few 1911 10mms, how are the Smiths in 10? I have a S&W 645 that I just LOVE! One of my favorite 45s. They say the third generation Smiths are an improvement. Comments??

I've owned a 1006 and a 1076. Both we're absolutely excellent pistols. It seems everybody loves their S&W 10mm pistols. They are robust, well built, and stone cold reliable. I bought the 1076 about six months ago in about 95% condition with one mag at a pawnshop for $525 out the door.
Did I overpay? Probably but I wanted it! :D Best, John

Its totally relative. I never see them in decent shape, so I paid $510 for one in mint shape and am extremely happy with it. If its super nice, $550 isnt a great deal, but it isnt a total rip either seeing as how they dont make them anymore, and wont. After I bought mine, I had multiple people tell me they got NIB ones for $300 and stuff like that, well good for them, I cant find any deals like that no matter how hard I try.

The 1006 is a tank. I have a G20 as well, the 1006 has VERY little recoil, even with full power loads like 135gr@1500 or 200gr@1200.

Only complaint is the trigger is really LLLLLOOOONNNNGGGGGG.

10xx series guns have alot of fans. That price seems kinda high, I've seen them for dirt cheap lately for some reason.

it took me a while to find my 1006, I just got it and paid $600 out the door. probably too much, but I really wanted it.

mine is in prisitine condition. looks like it was a safe queen.

Pristine condition (with a few mags) might deserve a price between $550-$600.

From the condition you describe, it seems to me that it ought to be more like $480-$500. But a lot depends on the availability of Smith 10XX-series guns in your area. If they're scarce, and if the barrel and internals are minty (grips can be replaced, external metal refinished), you might want to go for it.

IMO, the 3rd Generation 10XX-series and 45XX-series large-frame autoloaders were the finest regular production guns Smith made.

I haven't seen a 10 series for much less than 500 lately(OK, so I got my 1066 for 400, but that is through a place that has a lot of police trade ins come through).

Fans of the 10 series shouldn't have to pay these prices for a used gun, but supply and demand is in full effect here....

Pated $450 for this one (out the door). Mint, two mags.

They generaly run $400-$450. The 1076's are out there cheaper right now.

Heck, someone make me an offer. :p Bren
