I saw a Savage 111 in .270 (non accutrigger) with what appeared to be an older Shooters Edge 3-9 scope. Their bottom price is $275. The crown looks to be in good shape, lint in the barrel but no obvious rust or pitting. It has the outer wear of an older carry gun. About what I would expect. Is this a good price?

The Savage 11/111 Hunter (non-accutrigger, Bushnell scope) sold new for around $375, but I don't think they are available anymore. The Trophy Hunter model which has the accutrigger and Nikon scope sells new for around $450.

That's pretty much dead on what I paid for mine in the late 90s. The scope was crap and the reticle broke after less than a box of factory 300 Win Mag. Put a Nikon ProStaff in place of the original and got a nice wood stock from Brownells and it looks good but I never shoot it because I'm not fond of the abusive recoil from a 300 WM. I have been looking at low recoil loads- even cast loads. There's a good article in the current issue of Handloader for 300 WM, and Lymans cast load book has some data too. Otherwise, it's just going to continue occupying space in my safe.

A 270 is a much better choice of caliber. What ever made me think I needed a 300 WM in Alabama!?

It's a bit high imo. You can find them on a regular basis in this area with an asking price of $275-300 and they stay for sale for quite a while. $250 is the max I'd personally go on a non accu-trigger model. The last auction I was at sold one for $225 in a 30-06, which is about where I really think they should be priced. The Steven's 200 was the same as the older 110, and just a few years ago they were selling brand new for $300.
