OK so Im on a .22LR tear right now. I already had (2) and just bought a Marlin 60 last week. A Ruger 10/22 is on my list but today I went buy to see my friend at his shop (I have bought several guns from him including my SKS, (2) P11 KelTecs, a Remington 770 and the Marlin) and he has a Remington 597 .22LR in Camo in there.

Its certainly used as I pulled the mag and it was pretty dirty looking. The camo was a little dull.

He has a price of $200 on it and that would probably be my walk out the door with it price. No scope and the barrel seems to be in pretty good shape.

Fair price? Can I find new magazines for it?

BTW, just an added question. Ive seen barrels that were smooth and then there are barrels that seem rough on the outside. Is there a name for this type of finish? Or is it just old LOL

little much but i love mine. make sure it is a new and improved 597 auto loader EDIT= ok the stock in cam mo blows my stock away. but im going to paint it and i paid $149 with a scope and a 30 and 10 round mag on black fri last November

It sure feels a bit more substantial than a 10/22 or a Marlin 60.

Yeah I think after looking around that its a bit high. Ill probably pass on it for now and since Im in there all the time Im sure he'll ask me about it. Ill just tell him that when he is ready to dump it for $125 out the door to let me know. LOL

Id think its probably worth that. If he doesnt want to go that far Ill wait and buy new.

that is way too high; 150 used would be my max , for a cammo version.
I think the older versions had a smoother finish, it doesn't matter though, none of them ever used standard blueing or mirror finish.

oh yeah, new mags are everywhere, plus you can get hi caps, I think 30 rounds.
skip the 10.22, they are not as accurate or reliable, and i have one.
I myself am currently looking for a 597 as well.

So I stopped in today to throw a little money his way on the last gun I bought there (I can walk out with them no money down too and make payments as were tight) and I let him know that I was just at Wal Mart and the same Camo 597 is $177 there.

He says, "Let me see what I have in it". He comes back and says he can let me have it for $100 out the door. So, I have the Marlin and the Remington covered. Now to work on the 10/22.

So I told him Im picking it up next Friday. The Camo sure is dull compared to the brightness of the Camo in WalMart. Im thinking its gonna need a good cleaning.
