Just got into pistol cartridge reloading, and found some Federal small pistol primers at an out of town gun shop for $35/1000, so I bought a brick. They were selling only 1000 per customer - no problem with that policy these days.

The most I have paid is $29 or so for SR and I think $31 for LR. Which is all ridicolous. I'm not buying any more until I can buy for under $25/ thousand for any of them. Local dealer tells me it won't be long. He actually told me to wait on buying powder as he could knock a couple of bucks/pound off soon.

If your paying $5 or more/100 you might as well buy some loaded ammo. Hell, that is $0.05/round just in the GD primer. It really wasn't that long ago when you could buy some cheap ass .223 loaded ammo for $0.10.

I had about 3 bricks of everything and thought I was OK. Last weekend my brother came over with 75 Win 300 mag he wanted reloaded. Had no large rifle mag primers. Went to the local dealer who had 500 left. He would sell me 100 but I would have to buy a pound of propelent or box of bullets also. The same price as 3 months ago at least. 3.00 per 100 propelent IMR4350 21.00 Not the prices seen on Gun Broker. I have been told by my mail order source that after July 20 we should see some relief and start getting goods again.

I'm down to less than 5K per type, so soon, I'll be dry regarding some types. I HOPE I am waiting for them to return at $25/K, but I believe/fear that within a short time (and for ever-more) we will be glad to get any at $60/K. Sure hope I'm wrong. Then again, what's the value of primers if one has no powder? Or bullets?

...since primers are in such short supply what would most of you out there spend on a 1000 small pistol primers today?

The purchases I made a few days ago was at $28.00/SR & $32.00/LR per thousand.

I glued a 1K box of Federal Small Pistol Primers on a plaque and hung it up next to my 11 pt. whitetail skull mount. Best trophy I've bagged so far this year!

Bought a box of Remington large pistol primers from a local Scheels in Appleton, WI for $26/1000. The got a bunch a boxes last Friday.
