I was at a Flea Market yesterday, I didn't get any fleas but I found a mint Condition Marlin Model 56 Levermatic, here is an old add for one

I got it for an easy deal of 175.00, It is literally easily 95% and actually looks as though it might be unfired.
I found only two on gunbroker and one on GunsAmerica in much worse shape from the picks and they were asking between 275.00 and 315.00 for them.
I'm tickled as hell about it and can't wait to shoot it.

The Marlin Levermatics are nice old rifles. I had one years ago. It was very accurate. It only had one problem, occasionally it would fail to extract. A gunsmith and a new extractor took care of that.

Be very careful if you decide to take it apart. The internals are full of springs and pins.

That is great! I have one in .256 and love it. It is very fun to shoot. Brass is easy to make from .357.

Enjoy that rifle.

Back in the early 60's, when I was in high school, my buddy had a Marlin 56 and I had a Marlin 81C semi, and we went through a bunch of 22 rimfire ammo over the years. They were always accurate and reliable. 50 years later, he still has that Marlin 56.
I always liked the M56 with it's solid feel and short stroke action.
