I recently purchased some 223 FEDERAL 50 GRAIN HP, and was wondering if it would be a good defense ammo?

I have 1,000 rounds of the same ammo, and judging by the way it explodes pumpkins, water jugs and watermelon, I can't say that it wont do the job. It mostly fragments on impact, so the chance of the bullets passing through your target is much reduced. By the way, I got the 1,000 for $100.00 on sale at Wal Mart. Just had to brag .

Its a good round, but like any ammo and any shot, You better know what's behind it, just in case...

The Federal 50 grain JHP was a popular cartridge for Police applications before TAP ammo and the like became available.

As stated earlier, I wouldn't enjoy being shot with the stuff.
