howdy, i have this here 870 its an older express magnum that previously has been trouble free. today i took it out for some fun with Remington 2.75 inch 00 buck. and it would feed the first 4 although rather leisurely regardless of how hard i pumped the action. now the 5 and final shell would still be in the shotshell tube. I'm kinda a Mossberg guy so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Magazine spring - time for a new one. If that doesn't cure, then shell stop, adjust or replace.

ps: make it clean and try that first, including behind the shell stop.

Clean the magazine tube well (take all the 'guts' out first) through and through- field strip the gun all the way, take out the trigger plate assy, the bolt/slide/forearm assy, everything.

With the gun torn down like that, don't get too froggy with it- the structures that really retain the shell stops in place are all taken out, and only the factory staking holds them in the receiver. And the protuberances of the shell stops that make them work properly are at the receiver end of the magazine tube.

Could be a new magazine spring is called for, could be a metal shell follower might help too. Brownells sells a good package- http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/Company/news.aspx?newsid=75 .
