So what do you guys think of the lowest price PSA complete rifle kits minus lower?

I am looking at their site and the AR15 kit page with price selected so they show them from lowest to highest price.

Can I really build a decent , reliable, AR15 for casual plinking and home defense for under $400 if I have a lower laying about?

What are the issues with a stainless barrel?

If I am not going to be doing three or four mag dumps as fast as I can reload, do I really NEED a chrome lined barrel?

Will one of these builds make it through a couple of "carbine classes" and still have any life left?

How many of you have build a rifle with a PSA kit and of you guys what'd ya' thingk?

IF, that's a big if, they have them in stock and, IF, that is an even bigger if, they ship it before never then yes, PSA makes quality kit. Chrome lined barrels are over rated and really only needed if you shooting near combat conditions. They do make cleaning a little easier and they are tough as nails but most shooters will never wear out a normal barrel let alone a chrome lined barrel. As long as it is assembled correctly it should serve you just fine.

I've ordered five firearms from PSA in the last 18 months. IIRC, everything was delivered in under two weeks.

Assembled two kits with no problems. Everything works as it should. No complaints. Haven't shot any of those AR's in a few months but I remember being very pleased with accuracy. I bought their mid grades and one top grade. Seems they have three grades? Anyway, they had some holiday sales I couldn't pass on :).

Casual plinking AR? Sure. For the price? Absolutely.

Their shipping is getting MUCH better. Over the past few months, I've ordered parts and ammo from them and shipping has been a week or less.

They are G2G. I scored a killer deal on a full magpul melonite kit for just over 400 a few months back. Love it.

Their 416R stainless barrels are good quality and will last at least 10,000rds (for a $110 barrel, that ain't bad!). My shipping times in recent months have been quite fast as well.

Outdated intelligence.

PSA shipping has improved drastically in the past year or so.

PSA shipping used to be very slow. The last couple of years has shown quite an improvement, based on my experience!

I got my upper from PSA around Christmas. Estimated shipping put it on my doorstep around mid February. I wasn't too upset as the deal was too good to pass up. The upper ended up being delivered about two weeks after it was ordered. High estimates and realistic shipping make for happier customers.

Crowcifire,

I just like bayonets, that particular one came off my Mossberg 590A1 SPX Thought I'd stick it on for pictures. I'd much rather use it on that then my AR. Just don't have a lot of trust for a hard buttstroke. :)

P.B.

I take it that is the midlength stainless currently on sale for $399 shipped?

Any problems with painting the barrel if I want to?

As a youth my buds and I all carried bayonets for our milsurps......caught a lot of ribbing from folks......until we fixed bayonets and simply shoved the bayonet into the ground to provide a handy one rifle stand. No falling off trucks they were leaned on, no being tripped over by folks not paying attention, no knocked off shooting tables.....no nasty ground stuff on the rifles themselves

I've built several rifles with PSA uppers and kits, including more than one "freedom" stainless. They all run, and are more accurate than I expected. Absolutely nothing wrong with them, best value on the market IMO.

Built 2 PSA rifle kits, both are running perfectly with no issues, Both are very accurate too. The second kit shipped 3 days after it was ordered.

This upper is their "Freedom" upper, standard middy ran at $199 with no BCG/CH from a daily deal they ran, as they do every single day.

Paints well, I'll see if I cant get a current picture.

I bought a lower kit a month ago on sale, it came in a week. I bought a complete kit (less lower), and an upper kit, they came in a week and a half. This was late last month, and this month. the assembled rifles look good, so far testing they run fine. Have not tested for accuracy yet, but will in the next couple of weeks. I will most likely buy from them again when I build another rifle this fall.

I just recently (4-15) bought the upper and lower for a 9mm Glock Compatible AR from PSA-when I put it together didn't function properly-took it for inspection to LGS-sent it back to CS-they sent it back-not repaired=runaround-My situation is not resolved--so my suggestion is-if its not in your hands and working-you may want to explore other options. But then again-you may get one that works-I guess it depends if you don't mind gambling with your firearms.

Recently a friend asked me to build six rifles, one for each of his kids, i suggested Freedom 1/8 stainless kits to go with the receivers he left with me. The order was shipped 24 hours after ordering. I purchase regularly from PSA and shipping has routinely been made the same or next day. They have made great inroads in that area in the past year, yes I can remember the two weeks or more before shipping but the end product has always been worth it.
If the OP wishes to build a rifle I would suggest the Freedom or premium parts as I have little confidence the Ptac kit will complete two carbine courses. Along with consideration of chrome bores I would suggest a barrel with a nitride (melonite) treatment.
