Public Disclosure of CCW Applicant Names

Check the laws in NE and verify public posting. Here in FL they have the sunshine law which states any document submitted to a government agency is available to the public of the state. However, the CCW statute specifically states any application or CCW permit shall be kept secure by the issuing department, so we are protected.

I recall this comming up in MN as well when we were first getting our concealed carry laws.

It is basically a way to harrass the CCWers. The antis want a list where they can call people up, especially their neighbors and ask em why they need a gun, why the cops aren't good enough. The press wants to be able to ask any political candidate or quasi celeb or other famous person 'why do you have a gun?' etc etc.

Here in MN they tried to make it sound like if a non LEO was involved in a shooting there would be no way for the press to determine if that person was carrying legally or illegally, unless they had some list they could refrence. The fact is that there would be plenty enough public documents such as the police report that would contain that information if and when a legal carrier used his gun to have no need of some list before anything ever happened.

Of course, the antis tried to spin this as 'there will be lots of shootings by mistake, shootings in anger, now that all these people will be going about armed, and we won't know about it because they want to make the list of who has these guns a secret!'

Hey guys, could we create a registry of all the people who have passed stringent federal background checks? I want to know the names, addresses, and phone numbers of everyone who can provide an ID card validating they are a law abiding citizen with no criminal background.

Get that for me by close of business this Friday? Thanks.
