So ive got about $200 to blow this weekend... My AR is a no frills A2 AR-15 Carbine that I built, needless to say it needs some evil stuff
My truck also needs a gun that is relatively inexpensive that can inflict some damage.

Both of these things are HIGH on the get list, and I will have both... Its just hard to choose which comes first. :uhoh:

Its either:

A Maverick 88 Security Shotgun - $160 (I might even spray paint it FDE)

or

A MOE Stock, Handguard, Grip and 2 PMAGS for my AR in FDE -$130

Thanks Guys

BTW: Im getting the TLR2 and a Bayonet mount for Christmas :D Ill post up some pics when its lookin purdy.

Anyone have an argument for the AR stuff? I mean I feel sorry for it!!! Its just too plain haha.

But on the other hand I feel sorry for the Glock 27 that needs to ride in a hidden compartment of my vehicle. haha

Shotgun. The Maverick, like other Mossbergs, is very light so it might hurt to shoot with heavy loads. Get a good recoil pad for it.

If your shooting and practice and training dictate that you need X for the AR, buy it. If there's something the rifle is missing now and you've thought about it, go for it. That said, throwing $$ at accessories (especially full sets of replacement furniture as people seem to do these days) when the cost of it is something you have to debate (versus simple "I can do it" impulse buys) is foolish.

Is this a case of "My AR looks plain" or an actual "My existing accessories don't meet need X" purchase?

If you don't already......

........have one, then the shotgun by all means. My theory is that everyone should have a rifle, a shotgun and a handgun. After the basics are achieved, then by all means, accessorize and customize.
I might just get around to customizing if I would just stop expanding my personal basic needs list. :D

Gte the shotgun. Accessorries for a rifle you already have can wait. It's always nice to have ANOTHER firearm.:D

I agree with KenvininPA, all gun owners should have at least one of each type of firearm - pistol, revolver, rifle, assualt rifle and a SHOTGUN.

Another vote for the shotgun. They are hard to beat for short range shooting. I can't keep one in my truck (work at a military facility) but have a couple at home.

Extremely;

I also voted shotgun, but with a difference. Myself, I'd keep the two C's in hand and start lookin' over the range of available shotties for your stated purpose. Who knows, there might be the exact item you're dyin' to have just another hundred or so over your current budget horizon. So, don't just get the cheapest because you can and it's currently available. Get what will be a long-term solution.

Doesn't Texas law state that if you do not have a CCW, you can only have a shotgun in the car?

I remember being told this about 12 years ago...

Definitely the shotgun for the truck, especially since the furniture you named for the AR is just fluff (except the mags). Load the shotty with Federal's 00 Buck with Flitecontrol wad so you'll get more range out of it, and you're good to go.

There's nothing wrong with a "plain jane" carbine. A bullet still comes out the end when you pull the trigger, right?

The Maverick 88 I bought back in the '90s is still running strong; they're decent shotguns.

get the shotgun keep the ar stock or close to it and shoot it a whole bunch then see if you want or need to pile acessorys on it

Agreed. Get the security shotgun and buy a 26" barrel for trap shooting, and keep the short barrel on it at home and in the truck.

Get the AR stuff.

It's better to have a few GOOD items set up properly instead a BUNCH of, um, sub-standard quality stuff.

If you have less than 5 hicap mags, I'd spend the entire $200 on magazines.
