ive been shopping around for a small Jframe Smith and the store i went to today had them for 469 i asked if they had any deals going on and they marked it down to 369! so i purchased it. pretty sweet little gun ive been carrying a mid size SA XD 45 around and compared to this thing that gun is a cannon it seems! i carried it breifly today in my pocket it carried nice couldnt really tell that i had it.

i asked the store if they had any pocket holsters and the guy asked his boss if they had any and he says "the ATF banned those like 10 years ago they said they where to conceable(sp)" i looked at him like he was crazy i wanted to say something but they didnt have any that i saw on the wall so i just kept my mouth shut. i wanted to ask him if he gets his info from local hear say from the local police or a cracker jack box and im thinking the latter on that one. i ended up just buying an unlce mikes side kick for now untill i order the pocket grabber from High Noon holsters.

1) Find a new gun store. $469 is ludicrously high, even if it was on "special" for $369 (an average normal price). Combined with the BS about the pocket holsters, it sounds like they are pretty clueless. Cluelessness is only worth putting up with if the prices are low, and it sounds like that isn't the case.

2) Welcome to the club (now go apply for membership in the appropriate thread :D ). It's a good little gun, but I would put a few rounds downrange before I'd trust it for carry- problems are very few, but you don't want to find out about QC problems at an inconvenient time.

thecno the first store i went to wanted 550+ for there S&W Jframes! lol i found them on gunbroker going for around 350 for new ones but with shipping and FFL transfer i would have ended up paying the same. most of the gunstores around here are crazy over priced.

for example Dicks Sporting goods has Marlin 917V for 199 the local gunshop has them for 240+ for the SAME GUN! i try not to be loyal to any gunstores around here because the prices vary so much depending on what you want.

oh i also made a post on the local 642 thread lol!

edit sistema1927 im not sure what you are talking about?

I have a bunch of holsters, like most of us, I suppose. My Uncle Mike's Sidekick gets the bulk of my CC work. Mostly for Glocks. It sure is comfortable.

i used an unlce mikes with my XD and it was the most uncomftable thing ive ever used lol would cause sharp pain in my thigh after a couple hours lol now im using a Dasantis (the nylon version) and it to is a big POS for my body frame and size. i have a high noon holster on order (tailgunner with clip) for my 45 so hopefully ive found one that will hold my gun and not shift around and cause sharp body pains!lol (hope the 4 month wait is worth it lol)

For the new 642

Take a look at the Mikas pocket holster. Is really a good fit and comfortable and stays in place.

You got a good price without a great deal of effort. I looked at one today at a competitive gun shop for $380. I believe the cash price was around $359.

You can get an inexpensive Uncle Mike's pocket holster for under $15. They wear out. But, but that time you should have found something you like better.

I'm starting to get pretty jealous now - this is the third new today (or tomorrow) 642 that I've read about in the last 15 minutes or so. D##nit! I may have to look for something more than just some .357 brass and lswcs' at the funshow this Saturday. I really need one. Really. I have a couple hundred rounds of .38 just sittin around needing a gun to be used in. Sure, I could use them in one of the .357s', but hey! They're 357s'!

Real nice choice. And I think the idea of just grabbing a cheap Uncle Mikes till you can get something made is a great one. $13 and you're in business.

Very nice.

Janitor- I learned at the ammo counter of walmart (while purchasing ammo for my new 642:neener: ) that you can shoot 357 in a .410 shotgun, but 'only in emergencies':scrutiny:

There is an absolutely appalling amount of misinformation dished out ever day in gunstores all across this land. As stupid as the average person is, fully half the folks are even dumber than that.

Good catch on a fine roscoe. I have a 940, and a 442, (well, that one's my wife's), but the right 642 just hasn't come along yet.

I was in Sportsmans Warehouse the other day and the guy behind the counter said the same thing about a pocket holster. He said they were banned because they made small guns too concealable. He compared it to an Uzi in a briefcase, if you can believe it. Both me and the guy looking for the pocket holster just looked at him like he was an idiot.

Which is just the way he should have been looked at. I don't understand how some of these people can make a living.
